the steers - avoid + hold steady = good in portsmouth
saw this band support the hold steady last night. every song sounded like a carbon copy of one of these bands:
the kooks
fratellis
kaiser chiefs
bloc party
the rakes
the cribs
the libertines
snow patrol
a very confused band, clearly.
the hold steady were awesome, even if they played too much from the first two albums and the crowd was full of 50year old jools holland fans who stood completely still for the entire gig and gave me evil stares when i tried to get past them to the front to dance. really quite enfuriating. there were about 5-10 people in the whole venue actually getting into it, but there was no possible way for them to get together and actually dance to the fun rock music because of all the fucking middle aged BASTARDS OH MY GOD IT WAS ANNOYING.
good gig overall tho, lovely and non-smokey :D
disclaimer: some older people are megacool, clearly, so no sarky comments please. you know who you are.
