Just phoned the venue to find out, but they were useless.
fuck that. cpwk+fuck buttons at the fly
My 10:30 curfew doesn't look so bad now. I was worried ISIS weren't gonna play until 10.
looks like i may have to miss oxbow :0(
but I wasn't THAT impressed by them at Bristol. And I had no cash for a ticket. Boris though :(
going. Better get a shift on - I have a bottle of wine to drink.
ruled the fucking whole world tonight.
they ruined the world in newcastle too :(
YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO PLAY IT
They hardly approached rocking last week. I'll take that back, the drummer did, but only because he was yelling and posing and hitting a gong.
they almost made my cry tonight
says Isis were good. i got a text. does this make me a hipster now?
during the quiet bits like Isis do.
were dull. I walked out. Pompous nonsense.
was fun, although I was wanting to see some cock.
isis were indeed great.
Shame I kissed Boris in Sheff last week though.
Boris - dullest thing since the invention of dullovision.
Oxbow acoustic band - absolutely fascinating. I must listen to Oxbow proper.
I enjoyed Isis, though it took me a few songs to get into it (precisely, when the first track they played from panoptican kicked in)
I haven't heard Oxbow before and I imagine they sound nothing like than the naked man/young republican/cellist blues-rock trio that were playing last night. However, it got me interested in checking them out!
thewarn is right. That Boris set will rank amongst mankinds greatest crimes. Otherwise, amazing.
It has to be one of the best encores I've ever witnessed. Absolutely awesome.
Boris were everything I'd hoped. Loud, noisey, fast, rockin, and ending in a bit of a stage wreck followed by minutes of feedback. They nailed it.
I don't know what the intro was, but the second part was Celestial (the Tower).
"metal for indie kids". I didn't think they were completely execrable but pretty meh.
Isis slayed, as usual. Especially when they played The Tower.
isis were brill, boris were fun, i love the drummer!
but im sorry, i just dont 'get' oxbow, his whole set sounded the same! and it just sounded like 'oh we can get away with just making stupid noise because hipsters (i dunno who hipsters are but it seems to fit in here and everyones using it) will swallow it as 'exciting' and 'innovative'
sorry, but it was just shit.
and i really didnt need to see all that thanks.
i really thought he was going to pull them off at several points.
what did that add to the music?
Doye. It's called art.
or have a point or message
or be beautiful
im all for art, its one of my passions in fact. but that didn't seem like art to me.
it seemed like a guy wasting over half an hour of my life wailing to the same tune on a guitar and making indistinguishable mumbling noises into the mic.
It's the blues, the sound of other people's suffering. It should fill you with a wonderful sense of schadenfreude. Besides which, you seem to be suggesting that there's no artistic merit in metal, which I don't really want to get into.
it didnt sound like someone suffering, his random wails and mumblings didnt resonate with me, sorry.
Isis are different.
they have actually put thought and artistry into their music.
I actually meant different because people who don't like metal seem to like Isis.
your profile picture rules!
thought the sound was shit for Isis...so, so muddy, especially during the second half of Dulcinea. The mix was all wrong too...bass too high in the mix, Aaron's guitar parts obliterating everything else. I fucking despise Koko as a venue.
And thank you so much to national rail for completely fucking me over and ensuring a 25 minute train journey took 2 hours, thereby causing me to miss Boris. I FUCKING HATE YOUR PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A SERVICE. Isis were cool but I was so angry about missing Boris, being soaked by a lorry as I ran to Koko.
luckily i was meeting people for drinks first but was an hour late due to my bus stopping in the road for 40 mins (still have no idea why the traffic was so terrible for that time then suddenly fine again) it's annoying as im trying to turn over a new leaf and be on time for things and this just make sme look like im not bothered when i did actually leave with plenty of time!
apoplectic with rage this morning about missing Boris...I've been waiting to see them for such a long time, and I'd been creaming myself about this gig for about two months now.
Also, Isis should have played Garden Of Light. And the fat piece of shit who started windmilling on the stairs during In Fiction can fuck right off.
and dont diss fat people!
sorry you missed boris, i know how it feels to miss a band you've been really excited about seeing - fucking shit :(
and this guy was really big. Bearing in mind my girlfriend is absolutely tiny too, it'd be nice if testosterone-fuelled retards like him would actually consider the people around them for a single instance. Throwing yourself around like that isn't going to enhance your appreciation of the music.
being small myself i understand the annoyance (and frequent bashes in the head) of bigger people will no consideration for the people around them
but it cleared up after a few songs from where i was standing
judging by my previous experiences of Koko it makes a difference where you stand, but I still can't fathom why so many bands play there. It's impossible to see the stage from the majority of the venue and the sound really is appalling from most parts of the venue. That said, I think the problem last night was mainly related to the levels of the respective instruments and the need for definition and clarity...a lot of the more ambient parts kind of descended into a mush of sound. First time I saw Isis back in 03 was still the best, though this was a lot better than last year's Oceanic gig and their 05 Mean Fiddler show.
that was poor
oxbow were interesting...Boris were ruined by the atrocious sound (and dead crowd) and Isis...well...INCREDIBLE!!! Million times better than their set at ATP and hundred times better than their set at Primalona...THE FUCKING TOWER!!! Great set, they seemed to be really up for it. And the oxbow guy coming on at the end was also pretty cool. Great gig. Possibly even better than Neurosis on Saturday and I hadn't expected that that was possible!
is an awful awful venue. Shepherds Bush Empire is so much better.
what Boris played? Every time I think about having missed them I want to cry...
The first 2 tracks of Pink, then I stopped paying attention. It sounded like most of what they played was the up-tempo tracks from Pink, with a (brief) droney feedback session at the end.
I guess I'll attempt to take consolation in the fact they didn't play much/anything off Flood, Feedbacker etc...
And I guess my favourite Boris album is Dronevil, which I doubt ever gets aired in a live setting. Even though it quite clearly should.
5/6 songs from Pink basically...including finishing with the last track the name of which surprisingly escapes me right now! The drummer got on the PA speakers and jumped into the crowd, crowd surfed for a few seconds then got back on stage and hit his gong. Was awesome.
I seem to remember the title is bizarrely translated from Japanese, like a lot of their stuff. I want the 10-minute Japanese version of that song...the extra 8 minutes of feedback they tack on the end of the US /European version of Pink renders it almost unlistenable on headphones. I actually find Pink really hard to listen to in one sitting because it's so full-on and mixed so high.
just abandoned my-self
oxbow are utter balls.
but that totally goes without saying.
probably the best Ive ever seen them. I only wish they'd played Carry (unless I was in the toilet) but I think they played all my other favourite songs. The sound was a bit annoying as expected from Koko. Some of the guitar parts were completely inaudible.
I was gutted that Oxbow weren't the full band so I found that quite dull.
Boris - I prefer their more droney, atmospheric stuff. What they were playing was actually pretty cheesy I thought (I don't own Pink). Fun though.
when the drummer from Boris jumped into the crowd and crowdsurfed for a while, managing to get back on stage just in time to finish the song.
I adored the noise Wata made throughout that. Dronetastic.
