it's pretty good, in a lo fi twinkly way. I expected him to be more depressed. What other elliott should I buy?
...would be a pretty good one to get next..
Roman Candle etc
But Either/Or first. And then From a Basement On the Hill. And then his s/t if you preferred Either/Or to XO; Figure 8 if you preferred XO. Then the other one. Then Roman Candle.
XO is a massive grower, btw. Once it's all sunk in, it's absolutely incredible.
and I have a friend who always plays me from a basement on a hill. I think I might buy that one next.
just keep your eye out for ES bargains. There will be times in your life when ES's death will save your own life. He's a lot like Jesus.
Except maybe the new complilation disc.
I'm not too fussed with Heatmiser either... tis ok. 6.5/10 ok-ish.
But ES owns the folksy demented "I love and hate life and drugs and ..." of the music world. Fact.
Figure 8 if you love the big production.
XO is like the balance between his lo fi and "produced" stuff.
Theyre all my favourite.
because of the beatles-yness, the earlier ones are just strumming and moaning. He's apparently my favourite artist according to last.fm, but i really don't know his stuff that well.
is my favourite. Followed by Either/Or as a close second. I just think those have the strongest songs on. I like all of his albums however and it's also worth checking out his previous band, Heatmiser. The album Mic City Sons by them is pretty good too.
but they are all excellent.
does he ever make a bad song?
but everything else is well buff
made it onto my best of the 90's compy snugly next to Cut Your Hair - Pavement & No Suprises - Radiohead
thats how much i love that song!
its at least 23 times better than the rest of his back catalogue put together
i thought it was a bit 'meh' at first, but now i love it.
I'd suggest Roman Candle next, i do <3 lo fi
then get Figure 8 next. If you'd like to hear the quieter side of his stuff, get Either/Or - it's my favourite of his quieter albums (ie. s/t, roman candle)
