every time i see shrinkwrap, a little piece of me dies inside.
Those silly plastic tape strips they stick over the top edge of the case. They're a pain in the ass.
demo cds sent in dvd cases. just... no.
they are annoying. They only come on import cds though don't they?
they're actually very useful for finding CDs in shops as you don't have to flick through..
you can look from above and see exactly what each CD is.
made perfect sense to me.
a fucking genius.
I HATE those, they never come off fully
on the phone the other day for over 10 minutes, because all the 260 odd CD's we sent him weren't shrink wrapped. He is not the only person who has done this either.
Day job is working in product replacement. Basically my job is to replace peoples CD collections for them if they get damaged, stolen, etc and charge the cost to their insurance company. It's actually pretty boring ater a while, especially when they complain about shrink wrap, getting the latest best of instead of the one they had which is no longer available etc.
I'd always wondered what the point of those American strips on the tops of CDs were.
Being able to scan them on the shelves easier doesn't make up for the stickers being an almighty arseache to remove. Has anyone ever been able to tear them off in less than 38 pieces?
thos big white security tags that usually get stuck BANG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ARTWORK on the back and you can't get them off (I'm looking at you jesu's 'silver' ep).
those stickers along the top piss me off something rotten. Espescially because they tend to decompose with time, so getting an older cd with one often leads to numerous sticky marks which are actually impossible to remove. And which completely destroy the aesthetics of said cd
I can't say i really care about shrinkwrap though. The environment can do one
and open the cd case from the bottom to keep it in mint condition!
so you don't get that horrid white scum on the front.
I agree. There simply is no need for it.
We could storm a village with pitchforks and lanterns. It'd be fun!
But, to get back to the point, shrink-wrapping is indeed pointless and annoying.
if they all had a rip-cord type thing like you get on packets of cigarettes, but they're still not as bad as stickers on top the US cds have on them (and consequently imports)
Occasionally I have to buy a 10-pack in jewel cases and then wrestle for a few minutes to remove the entirely shit pointless shrinkwrap.
and on occassion i'd swap the most expensive cds with the cheapest ones. thus i bought Blue Jam for £2, and have a strange contry rock cd case for it.
further to that, if there wasnt shrink wrap, people could just walk in, put the cds in their bags, leave the boxes on the shelves and walk out without setting off the alarm.
and they'd have to keep all the cds behind the counter like they do in smaller independant record shops, which could be a big ask for Virgin Megastore!
I love tearing it from the the CD. Like a super lame christmas
take a pair of scissors and slice it off. I often find myself wondering why so many CD's have a silver 'Universal Special Edition' label on, yet appear to be in no way anything other than a standard format and tracklisting
official UK edition. It's to stop retailers stocking the european versions which they can get at cheaper prices. Usually the 'special edition' will have a bonus track or multimedia content.
I also feel quite the sense of accomplishment when I get one off in under 5 seconds, like I have mad skillz or somethin'.
