Justice - Cross vs SMD - Attack Decay Sustain Release

beautiful_balloon [Edit] [Delete] 30 replies 21:13, 16 June '07

(sorry for yet another Justice post)

But, two big dance records both out on the same day tomorrow..

I'm currently finding Justice more listenable as an album, its extrmely eclectic, ranging from hard electro from laid back house via retro pop

I feel SMD slightly falter when it comes to poppier moments, I Believe and Love seem somewhat half-hearted. Hustler is however, the best song out of both albums. A close call. You?

  • The...

Problem with the SMD album is that the best tracks have already been available, and of the ones that havn't, Sleep Deprivation is the only one that stands out. They've definitely suffered from the fact that the best 4 tracks on a 10 track album have been available for a good 6 months.

Justice's hangs together as an album really well, rather than just a collection of 12 unrelated tracks, and although, again, a lot of it has been available for a while, there's quite a lot of the album that's very good and new; DVNO as a possible future single, and The Party (I know lots of people hate Uffie, but I think this is a fantastic song), and the filler tracks work well in context (Valentine sounds a bit crap on it's own, but after the 2 parts of Phantom, it leads brilliantly into The Party)

Controversially, though, I think Phantom pt 1 is better than Waters Of Nazereth.

agree with you about SMD not seeming fresh due to the availability, who hasn't had Hustler, I Believe, Tits and Acid etc for ages?

Its not their fault of course, but it makes the album seem like less of a cohesive experience, unlike Justice which as you say really works as an album. hm

      • I get the impression...

that Hustler may well be rereleased as a single which means there could be some remixes, which will make me feel less guilty about still playing it out lots, despite it being a year old

        Mu_Tron @beautiful_balloon | 16 Jun '07, 21:35 | X
    • i prefer Uffie to Justice

but i think her inclusion in 'The Party' seems a bit tacked-on. Or doesn't work so well. Or something.

      • I

prefer the version that was leaked from someone's DJ set (DJ Medhi?) a week or so before the whole album leaked, it's a lot faster and less laid back, which would obviously not work as well in the context that The Party does on the album. Hopefully it's going to be a released remix, rather than just whatever Ed Banger DJ it was playing the Uffie acapella over something else.

        • .

I just haven't been able to get into the SMD album full stop. Probably one of the let downs of the year in terms of releases I was anticipating a while... As for Justice, it is bludey fantastic. Cannot get enough of it...

Oh, and Waters of Nazareth > Phantom Pt1 by a whisker.

          • If

anyone likes these two albums than I suggest checking out Chromeo - Fancy Footwork, out next week (25th) - they should have loads more exposure than they do

  • Justice >>>>> Simian Mobile Disco

And I like SMD a lot. The Justice album is just awesome, and I can't remember a dance debut kicking up this much worthy fuss ever (I'm only 22, so I'm sure somebody can put me in my place on this)

  • Controversial but...

    Digitalism > Justice > SMD

    In my humble onion.

  • The Justice LP is fucking weak.

    The SMD album is solid.

    crablin | 17 Jun '07, 15:18 | X
    • Solid

but pretty disposable. Can't see many people listening to it in a years time

      dove_from_above @crablin | 17 Jun '07, 18:37 | X
    • in what way is it weak?

      alcxxk @crablin | 17 Jun '07, 18:51 | X
      • as far as i'm concerned

its not quite as incredible as i was hoping for (which was far too incredible to hope for, really) and the twee filler tracks do sound a bit wack if youre not in the mood for them, but its got so, so many great tunes on it and flows well.

still havent heard anything by SMD that make me care about them at all. just d/led Hustler, and its not bad, but compared to any of the justice singles its nothing

        alcxxk @alcxxk | 17 Jun '07, 18:59 | X
        • Hustler does sound the bollocks

in a club though. Hearing that intro bleeding in and before the beat starts sounds quality no matter how many times you hear it

          dove_from_above @alcxxk | 17 Jun '07, 19:15 | X
          • like youve ever been to a club

who do you think you are? john travolta?

            alcxxk @dove_from_above | 17 Jun '07, 19:27 | X
            • Yeah

You've ridden on my big jet plenty of times

  • ^^

    this.

    chuckbarris @jacklj | 17 Jun '07, 15:53 | X
  • I like the SMD album

but 'I Believe' and 'Love' are terrible, they stop the album from being totally solid. At least for me, anyway.

'Sleep Deprivation' is "bangin" though, even if it's bordering on Trance.

The Justice album is totally amazing though. I'd probably go as far as to say it's the best dance album since Discovery.

    So that wins.

    • funny

that we're all talking about it so casually and openly when its not even out yet. Its almost expected that people download in advance

              • I thought they came out last week

I've seen them available off boomkat and stuff.

Probably not the official release but I've got bunches of albums before they've been released officially.

                Not that it's important.

                • theyre both probably out on itunes

                  i guess
