Action Adventure Music

Africa is sleepy evil
Russia has its horsemen
Spent some nights in an old Kyoto
Sleeping on the matted ground

Cyprus is my island
When the going's rough
I would love to find you
Somewhere in a place like that

(5 DiS points for naming the above song.)

All music is escapism to a degree but certain songs/albums really do transport you to foreign lands. And for a guy like me who's basically lived the majority of his life in boring suburbia it was especially important.... Like traveling up the Congo with Joseph Conrad...except without all the boring reading bits. ;) Can anyone listen to Patrick Wolf's 'Paris' and not be there? I love when a song can do that.

  • When I listen to 'Paris' by Taxi Girl

    I really think I'm there.
Then I realised I'm actually there and it makes me sad !

"Paris, c'est juste une grande poubelle
et la poubelle est pleine depuis si longtemps
qu'il n'y a plus de place pour nos déchets à nous".

it's no fun if you already live in an exciting foreign land. ;)

      • the lyrics mean

"Paris is just a big trashcan
and the trashcan has been full for so long
that there's no place for our own waste."
        Not that exciting...

        • Well, maybe not when you put it like that

but the way PW describes it it sure as hell does! I want to be able to say to a woman: "Ah, Paris. We'll always have Paris." God, that'd be so romantic!

I gotta say this. And I love ya so there's no misunderstanding...and Taxi Girl's Paris is alright...but French bands always remind me of Gorgio Moroder discoteque stuff. *shrugs*

          • I wish I could take that last bit back

because now I sound like an ignorant twat for making a rash generalization. I really haven't heard enough french music to even speak on it intelligently. Apologies. I'm gonna go to bed. I'm tired. Maybe I'll pick up Heart of Darkness and read a few pages. G'night.
