  • Re: Football Teams

ah shit, this was meant to be on the social board.
    • Re: Football Teams

Grimsby Town. Been a season ticket holder for the last eight years, seen a promotion, three relegations, and a two wins at Wembley in one season.

Why? Because they're my home town club and that's what you're supposed to do. The amount of money I spend on following the useless tossers around the country stops me from getting to many gigs.

Ah well, it's worth it on the odd occasion we play well.

      UP THE MARINERS!

      *blushes and sits back down*
  • Re: Football Teams

Crystal Palace, season ticket for 9 or 10 seasons, I think the first one was 95/96 but I might just remember it wrong. Why? Same as most people, because they are my local team and because I was brought up supporting them.
    • Re: Football Teams

Norwich City. I grew up in West Kent, and there were no teams within many miles, so I felt no degree of loyalty to anyone. Therefore I "supported" Liverpool as many children i am sure do.

But then I went to University in Norwich and everything changed. I have been a few times this season from St Albans but it ain't looking good. Went to the Play Off Final where we lost to the Brum Scum.

But yeah that is a point about local teams. Now, living in St Albans everyone seems to support Arsenal (which is fair enough considering their training ground is just down the road), but you would expect more support for Hertfordshire's only League team - the unmighty Hornets.

Anyway rant over, I'll make myself a cup of tea.
  • Re: Football Teams

I support Sunderland, the mighty black cats.

My Dad grew up there and its just stuck from him. Dont get the chance to go much, as its miles from me.

Palace are going down, last year in the play-offs, cheating bastards!
  • Re: Football Teams

Not really a supporter but like to keep an eye on Nottingham Forest and Norwich City now and then. I'm originally from West Norfolk but now live in Nottingham.
  • Re: Football Teams

Newcastle Utd. Hometown club. Don't get to many games unfortunately but I've been a fan since '94 when I first watched football. I'm very proud of the lads at the moment, 8 wins in a row and we were impressive tonight!
  • Re: Football Teams

    QPR. Local club, innit?
  • Re: Football Teams

    the fucking boro like!

Middlesbrough that is, me local club n that.

going out of the uefa cup tomorrow night :(

no fit players, at all...probs gonna be nemeth in midfield and job & Graham upfront.

    *sarcasm alert*

    GET THE FUCK IN!

...did anyone see Joe Job's goal the other week though, what a stunner!! (the goal)
  • Re: Football Teams

I'm a season ticket holder at Coventry City, I support them as they're my hometown club and have been going to games since 1985. My dad took me and my brother to every game including the final when we won the F.A. Cup in 1987.
  • Re: Football Teams

    newcastle united football club.
    my local team. lifelong fan.
this years UEFA cup champions...and hopefully the FA cup as well (but thats a harder job)
  • Re: Football Teams

Bloody Hell, Cov fans are taking over this board. Add me to that list, had a season ticket for the Sky Blues for 8 years now and I'm now trying to come to terms with why the hell I've just renewed it for next season!
  • Re: Football Teams

i be a villa fan, why because they're my local team.

Oh and anythings better than fucking blue nose scum.

Ahem, sorry about that, just a bit concerned about sunday. Still look at the table fuckers.
  • Re: Football Teams

    Celtic
    Why?
At the end of 4 years of marriage to a Rangers supporter, it seemed like the only sensible thing to be…
    • Re: Football Teams

      Celtic

Old enough to have been able to go to games as a kid and ask drunks to lift you over the turnstiles for free.

First game was Celtic v Airdrie, 1975 final at Hampden, 3-1 to Celtic. Very large crowd, to a 6 year old looked like 250,000. Think my dad left before end so he could get served in pub.
  • Re: Football Teams

    Newcastle Utd FC...

erm... erm... Because i live there?
    • Re: Football Teams

Sunderland, even though I was born and bred in Cardiff. My mam is from up there, and I used to go to Sunderland home games when on holiday.

      Up the Mackems!
      • Re: Football Teams

        Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

        Macken scum!!

        ;-)
        • Re: Football Teams

          Nottingham Forest.
Born in Nottinghamshire and lived there most of my life.
My old man took me to my first Forest game when I was a nipper during Brian Clough's era and I've been hooked ever since.
Also have a soft spot for Mansfield Town as well as thats my hometown.

          Dom G.
          • Re: Football Teams

We are the boys from Southampton,
            The pride of the south,
We hate all the bastards that come from Ports-mouth,
We only drink whisky, we only drink wine,
            Southampton boys in town!
            A-la-la la-la-la-la-la,
            A la-la-la-la..... oooooof!

Um, Southampton. Got a season ticket for my birthday when I was about 12 to go with the family across the road, the rest is history.

And, personally speaking, we hate all the bastards that come from Portsmouth in a footballing sense. I'm sure as a person from Portsmouth you are probably lovely
          • Re: Football Teams

Up the Boro - tho I talk quite posh so people dont really believe me!
Erm, my highlight was the League cup final last season. I went to Cardiff all by myself and cried when Gareth Southgate lifted the trophey! Boro fans with big beer bellies bought me beers and chips! It was fab!!
Also like a bit of Darlo on the odd occasion!
I am now up to 34 grounds - not bad for a girl hey?!
            • Re: Football Teams

arsenal. because thats who my father supports and where i grew up.
lucky enough to have a season ticket in the west lower, last season was fantastic - this season is er, ok.
my favourite ground is , i hate to say .. old trafford! probably because everytime i have been there we have won!

  • Re: Football Teams

    Brentford FC.

    It's a family thing.

    • Re: Football Teams

I support Liverpool as I went to Uni there and everyone at school was into them so it just happened but the first team I saw was Stoke City as was born there and my dad made me go as he was a fan - still keep an eye on them for him and bizarrely they seem to be a better team than Liverpool these days

my most hated team is Norwich - there s no reason really - cant wait to see them go down at least two divisions though
      • Re: Football Teams

I'm an Argyle man through and through.

I'm one of those madmen who went to all those crap Div 2 and Div 3 games, the Championships wonderful in comparison.

I support them cause they are my local team and it's obviously the easist to go see games, I don't understand the mentality of glory supporters.
I'm quite vocal on these boards about Argyle, to the dismay of many, It's good to have discussions with Bamos and Dom about the Championship.

The teams I hate - Exeter City, Man U, Everton
        • Re: Football Teams

Yeah I can't believe you got stuffed 5-1 by Sunderland the other night. Seen 'em twice this season (and admittedly they beat Forest both times) and have to say they are in a false position and play the worst football I've seen in years - big hoof up to Stewart/Kyle with the other 8 standing around waiting to pick up the scraps.
Still, at least it drags you back into the mire alongside us lot!
          • Re: Football Teams

If you see the stats Sunderland had 5 shots and 5 goals, the posession was 50-50, we had 6 corners to 2.
We played most of the match with a goaly with only one eye as his other was cut, Bobby couldn't be arsed to stick a goaly on the bench.
To say they were lucky was an understatement.
We totally outplayed them as well when we beat them at Home Park.
Oh well, it's Millwall on sunday.

At least you drew last night :-)
            • Re: Football Teams

Yeah but we had an understrength side and missed a penalty.
Leeds are gash! For a club who've had more rules bent to accomodate them this season and enabled a club with supposed debts of £70 million to be able to sign (count 'em) 23 players they really are average at best.
2 points dropped for us rather than a point gained to be honest.
              • Re: Football Teams

As I got to uni in Nottingham I've got a soft spot for forest, and I like Gary Megson as a manager. When we (Sunderland) played you, you didn't look too bad. hardly relegation material. But I guess they say no trams too good to go down.

To tom_from_sparks. We were clinical, the amount of times we've had thirty shots this season and scored 1 goal is unbelieveable.

Admitedly the divisions poor, but i think apart from wigan we're the best team in it.
                • Re: Football Teams

Think I'd have to say Ipswich are the best team we've played this season, starting with the six obvious reasons why that they dished out to us last weekend.
Also - and it pains me to say this - I actually think the Mutton Molesters from up the A52 are one of the better sides in this league, although whichever three teams go up I think they'll be down by Easter.
                  • Re: Football Teams

That's the beauty of the Championship in my eyes, every team can beat everyone else, Look at Rotherham beating Reading a few days ago.
It ain't the "only three teams can win it" and "if you come up you go back down" Premiershite.

I'd say that the only team that really outplayed us were West Ham but they are as inconsistant as it gets.

If you would have said at the start of the season Derby and Preston were up there I would have laughed, loudly.
      • Re: Football Teams

I swear you have something against me prole. First me living in St Albans, then supporting Norwich. Is this a personal vendetta? Should I be worried?
        • Re: Football Teams

Yeah, next he'll be telling you that your 9-57 at the oval in 1994 was down to luck and poor shot selection from the South African batsmen.

Anyway, football is 'out', cricket is where it's 'at'. I support Essex.
          • Re: Football Teams

Kent - I suppose we must be rivals. That 9-57 was one of the best things I have ever seen in my life. Surely they could have motivated him to do that every time just by chucking cricket balls at his head?
          • Re: Football Teams

The nearest side to me are Somerset.

I actually watched them twice, it's a long way to Taunton though.
These were in the glory days as well with Tresco's supreme batting and Caddick's lovely, deadly bowling.
            • Re: Football Teams

Sorry Devon it was purely coincidental - unlike your 5 overs in 1994 - maby eNoriwch is a bad example of a team I dislike when in all fact its Chelsea I loathe. If had a top five of teams like a fairweather supporter it would go like this

              Liverpool
              Stoke City
              Yeovil Town
              Newcastle
              Cheltenham
              • Re: Football Teams

Sorry prole but I've never understood this "Liverpool" or whoever are my second team tosh. If you come from a certain area then its fair to say you may look out for teams in your same town/city but to then "support" another team in the quest for glory...despicable!
                • Re: Football Teams

well if you get what i'm saying I still watch Stoke because its where I cam from and the the first team I started to watch - at shool in the mid/late 80s everyone was a liveprool fan and peer pessure got the better of me and when i went to uni you couldnt but not support them - its not as if Im supporting them coz they're invincible coz they're not by along way!!!
  • Re: Football Teams

Ipswich, nominally. The first team I saw was Millwall, and I wanted to support them, but my mum didn't want me to because she thought they were rough and then we moved to essex so I couldn't go regularly. My dad took me to see Ipswich and I liked their kit, so I supported them.

  • Re: Football Teams

Sunderland, because I am from Sunderland. It took a lot of restraint not to post something offensive on the Toon Army thread. I don't hate many people but Alan Shearer is definitely on the hit list :)
  • Re: Football Teams

Man Utd because my dad's from Manchester, and it's a family tradition. Also the same reason I follow Stockport County (going down at the end of the season :-()
    • Re: Football Teams

      I'm another Celtic fan
      • Re: Football Teams

Gresley Rovers are my main team, being as they are my 'local' teeam (or were until I moved away from home). You've not lived until you've seen your team get beaten away 2-0 at Warrington in the rain the Unibond First Division. Oh no.

Other than that, I'm a Leeds fan cos I lived there as a youngster. We will be play-off contenders next year. Oh yes.

Going to Uni in Lincoln left me with a soft spot for Lincoln City as well, to the extent I watched every home game and a few away for three years.

I do like to watch my local team though. So in the past few years I have watched Gresley, Lincoln, Lancaster City and Gravesend & Northfleet. By that reckoning though, I'm now doomed to a life of Bromley or Crystal Palace. Hmmmm...
        • Re: Football Teams

I support Chelsea, and I have done for the whole of my life. Ive been through all the shit years, crap buys, relegation and I hate that because of the current situation, people call me a gloryhunter!
I went to my first game when I was 4 years old (a 2-0 victory at Southampton! Thanks to my mum and most of my uncles is mainly the reason. *ahem* Anyway, I've seen the Furlongs, the Suttons, the Livingstones, the Beasents come and go and would just like to say that Jose and the boys are doing us proud this year.

I also follow Sutton United (local), Glasgow Rangers (main Scottish team), Ross County (random Scottish team) and would like to sign off saying I'm glad we are all so into footy and the joys and despair it can bring!
          • Re: Football Teams

Coventry - Home town club (ex season ticket holder till I had to spend too much time on music)

            Celtic - Family
            • Re: Football Teams

Southampton cos I grew up nearby. At college there was an even split between Saints and Pompey. I tried to make friends.

Now live in the middle ground between Spurs and the Arse-enal. Can't say I have much of an opinion on either.
              • Re: Football Teams

i support wolves. no idea why, i have lived in southampton all my life and have no connections to them, its just that when i was about 4 i decided i liked them. since then we have gone up 3 times and down once, but as is commonly known we seem to like the championship way too much. here's to the next 15 odd years stuck there.... saying that though i agree with the above comments that it is the best league due to it's unpredictability.

also have a soft spot for brighton (uni), southampton (local), and crewe (their manager is a bit of a legend, i like what they have achieved).
                • Re: Football Teams

i support Southampton and a little bit Aldershot, now living in Brum most of my mates are Blue but i have a irrational prefrence for Villa
                  • Re: Football Teams

Brighton fan hoping all the Coventry, Plymouth and Forest fans have a shit end to the season because a lot of our players obviously think the season eneded in February.

Actually I couldn't wish Mickey ill if I wanted to so I hope Coventry stay up and go on to win the league next year. Whatever happens Mickey will see you alright in the end.

Reading on Saturday. I hate those bastards as well. And Judas Coppell.

And to the bloke trying to choose between Cripple Palarse and Bromley I cant see how thats even a contest. Dont even think of going to Scumherst.

                    • Re: Football Teams

Forgot about Brighton and the drop.
Your lot are in freefall too aren't they?
                      • Re: Football Teams

Lost 3 games on the bounce now. Thankfully no one around us is winning and if we beat the glorified industrial estate on monday we will leap to the giddy heights of 15th!!!!

If we lose we are deep in the shit though.

Live on the box if you other relegation unhopefuls want to find out how bad we are.
                        • Re: Football Teams

I'm just gutted to hear that Marlon 'GOD' Harewood might be signing for the sheepdippers up the A52 before Thursday.
Flags would be half-mast in the city of Robin and Brian if that were to happen...
              • Re: Football Teams

Are you from delightful Gosport or Fareham?!
  • Re: Football Teams

Can't believe there are so many Cov fans!
  • Re: Football Teams

    manchesterrrr, manchester united
season ticket holding motherfucker right here
    • Re: Football Teams

Man City....became a fan when I was 7 after we beat Huddersfield 10-1. We were in the old, old Division 2, and as far as I know, it's the only time post-war where three players on the same team have scored a hat-trick in the same game.

Huddersfield's goal was a penalty, btw.

Dreading losing SWP in the summer, but fingers crossed the Arsenal/Chelsea/united vultures will leave us alone.

      Ian
      • Re: Football Teams

Halesowen Town....and I'm still bitterly dissapointed about the FA Cup loss to Yeading (that I sadly travelled to), which mean't we'd have played Slough Town next (and obviously beaten them) then played Newcastle United....and probably beaten them....er, well maybe not!!
      • Re: Football Teams

        • Re: Football Teams

well i suppose my most local team is havant and waterlooville.........but I am a Pompey fan first and foremost. Funnily enough, my Dad is a scummer. Took me to The Dell when I were a wee nipper, and I've never forgiven him - he even bought me the bloody shirts.

Watching derbies in my house is hilarious - and fairly full of aggro - its like football factory, but with slippers.
          • Re: Football Teams

fuck! ive just seen people talking about cricket on this very same board - im totally all for moving the bias towards cricket. dont get me wrong, i am an irrationally obsessed football fan, but therein lies the problem. if pompey lose i tend to be a pain in the arse for the rest of the weekend. so recently ive been a barrel of laughs pretty much 24/7...However, when I was a member (yes sad i know) at Hampshire CCC - i didnt care if we lost, and i drank even more if we won! and they only play when its sunny (well when its dry at least)! ahhh cricket, so crap and yet so great.

just dont get me started on rugby - what a sack of wank...*awaits possible backlash, then wonders how many rubgy fans listen to anything other than R&B and the stereophonics*
