My vote is on Dizzee Rascal's "Math + English".
Although, it was quite thick to think it was going to be fantastic.
is it really that bad? Even Showtime was pretty fantastic.
It's ok, but Wiley's album's better, and Wiley's album is not amazing either!
Some of the samples and lyrics on "Math + English" are very, very lame.
I've not really been disappointed by anything.
Bjork Bjork Bjork Bjork Bjork Bjork
The most deathly dull record I've heard this year when instead I was expecting the complete opposite, a return to her Debut/Post pop roots.
Also Thirteen Senses, Modest Mouse and Magnet.
that there was a new Magnet...
The last one was so meh...
But i like debut and post as well, not as good as Homogenic or Vespertine, but still pretty good.
Bloc Party get my vote
Shall I avoid? I am quite the Bright Eyes fan.
Cassadaga is actually quite good.
im kinda indifferent to the new EITS, which is a shame. though i am very plus plus on the remix (lol so ghetto) cd that came with it
I thought Talkie Walkie was a bit of a return to form for them, but the latest efforet is just really dull.
I dunno why, but after track four I cease to care. And some of the lyrics are realllly bad. 'Hunting For Witches' is still a cracker, though.
from what ive heard of it so far, its good but not even close to the majesty of silent alarm
It's far superior.
I think it's either an album which is loved or hated.
also Modest Mouses album was better then I hoped it would be, i feared a reclouse into worseness then good news (which was really good but not outstanding) I now have high hopes for the EP which will probably be the most dissapointing one of the year as a result
Bjork's album left me cold
Arcade Fire's album is brilliant, just needs some listening to
erm...i don't remember any other albums from this year
Colleen album is really dissapointing. she made so much progress on the last one.
Haven't heard anything else by her though, what should I get next?
Malcom Middleton, Electric Soft Parade and Aereogramme were a bit disappointing too.
But nothing really really bad.
love the goldrush album - an excellent progression from their earlier stuff. granted it's more of a grower than an instant hit but give it some time...
I reckon there have been lots of disappointments this year:
New Young Pony Club (one-hit wonder!)
Bright Eyes (agree, it's quite dull)
Mark Ronson (sad, because his first one
was so good)
Dinosaur Jr. (it's ok...)
Ted Leo (not as good as I hoped)
Shellac (maybe THIS is the disappointment of the year)
I haven't really been able to listen to Arcade Fire, there was so much hype and it really put me off. I really liked it in the beginning, with the Springsteen vibes and all, but I haven't listened to it for months.
But 'An End Has A Start' doesn't fill me with anything. Not a patch on their debut, in my opinion.
Their album was just poor, high expectations or not.
people either love it or hate it. Hate is a strong word, but it's a huge drop from Silent Alarm.
Everything after "Banquet" has been dull as Hull.
really disappointing. And Tones of Town by Field Music didn't live up to expectations.
nothing like as good as silent alarm, for me anyway,
i like it; but i was disappointed. not as much as i was with wilco's though.
and 'The Weirdness', although I'm not sure why I was expecting much from the latter.
Yeah, don't know why I either expected it to be any good. It's a mess!!!
wins this hands down, shirley?
It's one of the best
I agree with pepelipep, Patrick Wolf's new one was SUCH a disappointment after the beautiful wind in the wires. It's what I imagine medieval new rave (so ye olde rave) to sound like. CRAP.
the arcade fire album is really good.
idlewild and wilco.
Most follow-ups have disappointed I suppose
albums dreary bobbins.
Quite liked the first album. It had tunes postmen could whistle.
Excellent Italian Greyhound
although still a good LP after it being 7 years in the making and it being Steve Albini I hoped and prayed for it to be the greatest LP ever, maybe I hoped for a little too much
the Shellac album.
but its not the greatest LP ever nor is it as good as any of their other LPs
Still ace, mind.
drums and guns
was absolute shit
Locust - I don' like the change in sound, not heavy enough.
Explosions In The Sky - Sounds like a EITS rip-off band, of which there are many. No amazing riffs, which instrumental bands of this sort need.
Bloc Party - Liked it at first, repeated listens only cause me to like it less.
newie was actually pretty good after repeat listens ... it's a big enough progression forward from the earth is not a cold dead place without changing too much (it's got pianos man!). they'll have to do something pretty special next time if they want to stay relevant. i'm going with bloc party's album as my biggest disappointment - i would have said biffy but i'm listening to it now and enjoying it.
didn't do much for me this time. lacks some of the energy the other two album have
Locust was surprisingly uninspired.
they're both ridiculously dull. I found it really hard to persevere through Volta.
Bright Eyes was disappointing at all to be honest.
Wilco (massive step backwards, despite being nice in places)
I'm almost scared to listen to Black Lives At The Golden Coast, I don't want anything to spoil the sheer genius of Penance Soiree
even with the incredibly misleading 'pop' hype recognised as such and not dwelled on, it's a bit meh after the first three tracks. i suppose it's still 'good' but up to now i thought she'd got better with every album, Medulla probably being in my all time top 50... so it sounds like a ball being dropped to me.
'neon bible' comments because there was no way it would ever have lived up to the expectations of the public, no matter how ggod it was.
...dull, dull, dull.
