Can

oceanRain [Edit] [Delete] 17 replies 00:36, 7 June '07

Is it pronounced "khan" or "can"?

I always thought it was Can for no particular reason except that no one I know has ever heard of the kraut band, until a couple days ago when a friend said that a "khan" album changed his life.
oR: Never heard of them.
friend: Khan.
oR: No, they're good?
friend: Khan. Yeah.
oR: Like Star Trek, Wrath of Khan?
friend: Khan, like, Can.
oR: *light bulb*

(or is it tomayto, tamato?)

And since this is the music threads side of things, feel free to opine your vast insight of the band.

  • Can

I like them a lot. I'd say my personal favourite Can album is Ege Bamyasi.

I like most Krautrock, especially right now Harmonia.

    • Agree here.

Got to be Can. And Ege Bamyasi. Tago Mago is a candidate too.

      • I was going to play some can/khan

in celebration of just finishing my essay. But seeing as you are the rock and roll guru, can you give me some tips on what to listen to?

        • I remember Can being big with

the collective staff of Music & Video Exchange...

          • Naaah...

far too mainstream for them. The big deal is on your trial day when it's your turn to put an album on- that first choice actually decides whether you come back for a second day.

I heard rumour once that some kid put on The Pigeon Detectives- he didn't even last until lunchtime.

            • Incidentally, do people pronounce Neu! as "new" or "noy"?

              • Definitely 'noy'
