Top 10 Debut Albums

marcofella [Edit] [Delete] 54 replies 14:20, 12 March '05
Lets have a vote and see which albums we all feel deserve to be in the top ten debut albums of all time!

My personal top ten are as follows. These 10 touch and changed me more than most:

Led Zepplin - Led Zepplin 1
Joy Division - Unkown Pleasures
Leftfield - Leftism
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Daft Punk - Homework
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
The Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
NWA - NWA and the Posse
Pixies - Surfa Rosa (Pilgrim was an EP)
The The - Burning Blue Soul

Yes, i know, i'm probably gonna get slated for one or two!!!

Ouch!

      FUGAZI
      MILLION DEAD

        1. Franz Ferdinand
        2. Highly Evolved
        3. Turn on the Bright Lights
        4. Please Please Me
        5. Hot Fuss
        6. Is this it?
        7. Parachutes
        8. Get Born
        9. Up all Night
        10. Kasabian

I would get slated for almost all mine but I don't care!

        • Re: Top 10 Debut Albums

Of all those I would say that only Parachutes and Please Please Me are worthy of consideration. Get Born? Come on.

          What About:

          Jurassic 5 LP
          Oasis - Definitely Maybe
          The Smiths eponymous
British Sea Power - The Decline of...
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Get Born & Kasabian? One of the top 10 albums of all time??!?! I know its all subjective, but come on!!!!

          ;-)

          • Re: Top 10 Debut Albums

Not of all time, just in my opinion. Im not saying these albums are the ten best debuts there has ever been, just the ones I enjoy listening to most.

How the fuck can you define it anyway, its all a matter of taste.

In my opinion Muse are dreadful, and Bloc Party are just yet another indie band that will be forgotten in a couple of years.
            wrightylew @marcofella | 12 Mar '05, 20:12 | X
            • Re: Top 10 Debut Albums

Bloc Party are capable of having a much longer shelf life than many of the bands you mentioned (Killers, Kasabian, Jet, etc).

      • Re: Top 10 Debut Albums

Which ones? The only 2 albums on there I'm not keen on are Daft Punk and Pixies (gasp). Haven't heard NWA or that The The album. All the others are classics in their own right.

        Not in any order.

        1. Oasis - Definitely Maybe
        2. Kaiser Chiefs - Employment
        3. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
        4. Muse - Showbiz
        5. 65 Days of Static - The Fall Of Math
        6. The Prodigy - Experience
        7. The Kennedy Soundtrack - Tale Of 2 Cities.
        8. British Sea power - The Decline of...
        9. Secret Machines - Now Here is Nowhere
        10. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - BRMC

        Phew! That was hard work.

Too many bands have crap debuts but excellent later albums.

        • Re: Top 10 Debut Albums

That's what I was thinking. In comparison to everything that came afterwards it is pitiful. If it wasn't Radiohead it wouldn't be considered.
          Thom_fa @alcxxk | 12 Mar '05, 15:22 | X
          • Re: Top 10 Debut Albums

Does depend though, there is a minority of radiohead fans who feel that pablo honey is the best thing ever done. At the end of the day its the most punk/grunge stuff that radiohead have ever done and it does have a raw charm to it.

Personally for a long time it was my favorite radiohead album, although right now im not sure, i like all of the first three equally.

                            Debut *and* breakthrough album.

Although most of the band had worked together before, so it was just a debut under the name of King Crimson. And considering the amount of lineup changes they went through, they put out four or five albums that were essentially debuts for entirely new bands with the same name.

                        Let's have a think...

                        Cat Spectacular - Bearsuit
                        Grace - Buckley
                        Deloused - Mars Volta
                        Up The Bracket - Libertines
Lost Riots - Hope Of The States
                        Space Oddity - Bowie
                        Pablo Honey - Radiohead

I'm starting to struggle there, don't really have many debut albums. Tend to only get them for new bands, and i prefer older ones...
