I'd heard bits and pieces before ATP and really enjoyed his sets, so what albums should i get first?
its a really good place to start
though i always look out for them in american shops...
they're all reissued on cd now
and Respect are definitely both very very good
is pretty essential, I'd say. The tribute album 'Discovered Covered' is a brilliant introduction, too - covers on one disc, the originals on the other.
I really like a few of the tracks on Discovered Covered, but I think it's too heavily focused on his newer material. Having said that, I don't actually know anything else by him, but I definitely prefer his voice and the production on the older tracks. The new stuff doesn't do anything for me at all.
the Discovered Covered cd. Very cool selection of his songs, and good covers too. There was also another cover compilation of his songs, but it didn't look as good.
I have Fear Yourself, which is one of his new more produced (by Sparklehorse chap) albums, which I kinda liked. & I also have 1990, which I very much don't like.
has speeding motorcycle which was in an advert or something.
'welcome to my world' has most of his most famous songs and is a really good introduction normally available for cheap.
really everything I've heard by him is brilliant. 'Yip/Jump' 'Hi How Are You' 'Songs of Pain' are ace. plus all the ones anyone else has mentioned.
I really, really like Fear Yourself. Its just a great pop album.
