I wanna be adored - Stone Roses
EMF - unbelievable?
The Killers - Mr. Brightside?
Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple. God knows why, it's a dreadful song to begin with.
DUH DUH DUH
the eagles - hotel california
the clash - should i stay or should i go
the specials - ghost town
More than a Feeling
What do you like about that song that you don't like about, say, 'Kashmir' or 'Immigrant Song' or 'Black Dog'?
im just saying their reputation is largely built around that song as most people dont know any other led zeppelin songs, for the record, black dog is better.
your point doesn't fit into the argument of the thread.
and so his point does fit. I haven't really heard much Led Zepplin, but I could have named that song...
It's hardly the fault of any band if their reputation is built on only one song.
London Calling is surely as 'classic' as SISORIG
Although I'm not a massive fan of it, Fool's Gold attracts a lot of praise (in this country anyway).
or whatver it was called.
'God Save the Queen' is one of several great songs by Sex Pistols - most of 'Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols'
Most of Stone Roses first LP, 'Stone Roses', is very good, as are 'Elephant Stone' and 'Fool's Gold'
'Smoke On The Water' is an irritating song. Try 'Black Night' instead.
We built this city.
Appeared on every soft rock compilation for years and years and is utter shite.
No idea if Starhship ever actually recorded another song.
Thanks for the reminder.
an unsturdy foundation for rednex's fame. has anyone bought them off eBay yet?
like falling from Jack's beanstalk.
To clarify, I happen to like the Stone Roses' first album, but I'm thinking their "classic" status was largely manufactured by alt radio stations who continue to play (and rightly so) Adored.
Completely agree with your assessment of Bollocks. Probably the best punk album EVah, every track a gem.
Hey, who sang that shit In Goddadivita?
best punk album is by the Damned !
regarding the stone roses, i think the classic status is more often attributed to the whole first album and its general popularity than that one song really, and as people have said, its not the only song on which their reputation is based
really blew the fuck up didnt it
In to number 1 with My Generation.
see also: most overrated band in history.
talking about the Pixies?
There are LOADS of songs that make the Who a classic band! If 'My Generation' is the only one you associate with them then that's more indicative of a lack of knowledge on your part, surely?
I bought Who's Next and Tommy and gave them time but wasn't overly impressed (Baba O Riley excepted). I would say that the majority of people have only heard My Generation but somehow The Who are always afforded a 'Classic Reputation'. If I have missed an album that will revert my opinion please direct me - they may get one last try.
Adolescent Sex and Obscure Alternatives are two of my favorites! And I didn't think they even had a "hit" song?
Seriously, did they only ever do the one song?
DO DO DODO DODODODO
Down down- Status Quo
blister in the sun
that's not even their most famous song.
What a tune. Did they even record any other songs?
Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild
...since Stiltskin got a look in.
Actually, Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Do they count as having a classic reputation though?
'You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet'.
Are you taking the piss?
The Stone Roses' classic reputation is built upon the fact their debut plays like a Best Of. Its probably the only superb record from around that time. Everything else was crap.
