and not just because you're too young to get in without them.
A good idea or a bad one?
If you're lucky enough to have parents who like the same music as you...embrace it! I personally think it's ace, beers are always on my dad when I go with him.
my mum doesn't really 'appreciate' the things i listen to. The last time she came along to a gig (this was about 6 years ago) she thought it was too noisy, even though it was a relatively quiet gig (by my standards)
but my mum likes the same stuff as me
I'm off to Biffy with my dad on Monday, not because I need him to take me, but because we both like them :)
i've been to a couple of things with my dad recently
paying back the favour for him getting me interested in music when i was younger by keeping him in touch with what the kidz are doing these days :P
If I've got a +1 to a gig that noone else is too bothered about. Mum rocks; she's kohled with Kapranos, drank with Daltrey, mingled with Morrissey and called Cullum a cunt. I love my mum.
Bob Dylan, Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young. He came to a festival for a day once to see Neil Young. None of the girls we were camping with would believe he was really our dad.
It was at murrayfield stadium and it was my first ever gig.
My dad was really really ill and we didnt think we were going to be able to go, but he managed to get us there and we got there about 5 oclock in the afternoon. Chili peppers came on at about half 8, and we had to sit through N.E.R.D (Who were alright) and Ash (who were ash).
It was a kind of crap gig, cos we were sat at the other end of the stadium from the stage, and the chili peppers were lacklustre at best, despite being my favourite band of EVA at that time.
But still, great. Plus my dad had to keep running to the toilet and was really tired, but sat through it so i could see rhcp.
What a nice story. Thanks dad!
My dad is coming with me to see Isis. Since you can't slam dance to them we should be alright.
My dad has a near identical music taste to me, we go to gigs together all the time!
'meaningless noise'. Although, my dad doesn't mind 65daysofstatic (the quiet bits).
"mental torture" or "Nihilistic whining"
Nick Cave, Cat Power, Will Oldham to name a few.
he has pretty good taste in music.
and a couple of times i've even been to leeds festival with him (day tickets to see metallica, g'n'r, ratm).
being closer to the front than most of the pupils at the school he teaches at / i used to go to = MAJOR cool points for my family
so I'd say good one. My parents don't like ANYTHING that I listen to. I went to a gig with my boyfriend and his dad and sister once which was cool. It's nice when parents can actually have a decent opinion on music rather than simply 'that's rubbish'. Free drinks though, and ticket!
i wanted to weave my way to the front, but she was having non of it. I still feel bad to this day for leavingher at the back haha
Unlikely to happen anytime soon, but on separate occasions I've seen a particular band with a friend of mine (age: mid 20s) and his parents (aged 49 and 50).
I'm 34 and have a nephew and niece aged 8 and 9. Would love to be able to take them to gigs when they get older if they start liking the same stuff...
with my dad. He's a nice bloke and we've got a reasonable amount of similar taste, with some stuff that he's put me on to and vice versa. We tend to see about 2-5 gigs a year together. Saw John Cale in feb and Roger Mcguinn and BB King last year. He went to see radiohead with several of us a couple of years ago to sit with my little brother.
The Zombies are brilliant live btw.
it was a but weird but quite a good night.
But I did go to see a band once with my mate his dad and his best mate (who where teachers) then we went out on the pull so to speak. With me and my mate feeling embarrased while this two 50 year olds tried to chat up what they thought where emos but where actually chavs.
ah simple pleasures
it was fun.
i say: go4it.
-he has good taste in music
-he gives me lifts
-he buys me drinks
it's all good :]
'cept I don't like smoking in front of my dad. and I like smoking at gigs.
hence I only go with him sometimes!
my mum's hopeless tho - she either gets annoyed at 'how rude they are' or she just doesn't get them. she called regina spektor a "whinging wierdo" yesterday :[
