Anyone know of any decent ones?

You mean, everyone getting drunk and dancing to "Christmas Steps"? Sadly, I don't.
Would be amazing. People would only be dancing once every seven minutes!
:D :D :D
called typitch or something at the purple turtle in Reading monthly for a while, but i don't know if they are still running it, and being in Reading is sometimes not very good
in nottingham, which is like electronica and stuff. And theres the music library as well, which plays soundtracks and stuff like that.
This was ace, but doesn't run anymore sadly :(
Rather than DJ's spinning 13 minute songs to a statuesque dance floor - as has been suggested by the reliably sarcastic comedians of the drownedinsound board - I was actually thinking more along the lines of nights similar to the PowPowPow gigs at 93feeteast or the Vacuous Pop shows in Oxford.
ie. Experimental/Post-Rock line up of live bands then a DJ set from someone of the like.
crrrazy! can you imagine the playlist...suitable for the bedroom but a club? hmm
I was gonna try and start one and DJ, I'd only have to play 5 songs all night.
at a night at Se1, like the "chillout" rooms, but good
Dot-Dash in Manchester!
I was going to say this! James usually plays the middle part of a Mogwai song, or a part of an Isis track (I know they're not strictly 'post-rock', fannies, but I'm making sweeping generalisations here)
Last time I went to Dot Dash (or I Could Care Less to old skoolers) it was the loud bit in the middle of Ex Cowboy
because the impression I got was that it'd just be a half-empty room, with loads of people sat around staring awkwardly. What's it like? Do people party?
The music is normally really good, but its a shit venue (the basement of Scubar next to the swimming pool on oxford road, you know it?). There's nowhere to sit, there's no seperation between dancefloor & loitering area, plus its not cheap to drink/bad choice/one person behind the bar so it takes an age to get served.
Like I say, the music is good when they dont just play what gets a good review on pitchfork. But its hard to dance to Mastodon, and they ALWAYS play the same Neutral Milk Hotel & Converge songs. I cant really think of any other nights on in Manchester where the variety/quality of music is as high, even if it is annoying sometimes.
A combination of clubbing, drugs and post-rock... That might just work...
my friends occasionally run the club night Robot vs Dinosaur in Birmingham. They haven't done one for a while, but they play electronica, math rock, a bit of post rock type stuff. We sat and drank while the post rocky stuff was on and danced to the other stuff!
what a hilarious concept.
Seriously, funniest thing ive heard all day.
But it was more a ' play music before gig/bands come on', thing.
It wasn't all post rock.
"One more step and you die" in Manchester, which is once a month-ish. Anyway, setlist of the last one included EITS, Grails, Pelican, Tortoise, Battles amongst other less post-rock stuff.
Suprisingly no Mono though
Although there are no live bands, it still has a v.tasty playlist.
Shove THAT in your large, cavenous well of cynicism and smoke it. You philistines! :D
Silver Rocket anyone?
more things like this, now you're getting the idea.
