When Kid A was released back in the halcyon days of whatever year it was Nick Hornby wrote a review of it in the New Yorker which basically said "If you're over a certain age you won't have time to 'get' this record".
It's not available online but it's been copy/paste parodied here:
and you can get the gist.
At the time I thought 'that'll never happen to me' but these days, especially now I have a job where I'm not allowed to have headphones in all day, I'm finding that I anticipate not being able to dedicate time to certain records that I'm interested in so i hesitate about buying them.
For example the pitchfork review of the new Of Montreal EP makes it sound like something I'd enjoy but it makes it sound quite complicated and, to be honest, I don't have time to repeatedly listen to some 10 minute multi-part symphony enought to do it justice.
anyone else find this?
