What are they?
I don't really take any drugs except alcohol. I'll usually drink a reasonable amount before going on stage (especially with the band) but try not to get to the point where I'm not in control of what I'm doing. It's quite nice to do gigs on the cusp.
My band's fairly anarchic and I've got a bit of a reputation for being pretty exciting to watch but a wee bit chaotic but I try to keep myself just sober enough to stop things getting too out of hand.
basically sums it up
if you play a shit gig due to drink, usually everyone watching things its good
as long as your rhythm section can play you're usually okay
my whole band did a gig coming up on pills. it's not big or clever kids, but it was one of the best nights ever.
Just after the soundcheck, to calm me down, and I reckon that will have worn off by the time I get onstage. I'm not talented enough to be able to play my instrument except when sober (or *even* when sober, come to that).
I get nervous about being too shellfish sometimes.
no drugs beforehand
a beer half an hour before stage time
a bottle of whiskey during the set
a spliff and whatever's at hand to drink after the show
works for me
an entire box of Sainsbury's flapjack pieces for dinner before a gig once. Didn't feel too great down the front once the sugar wore off...
the rules were before every gig you had to drink AT LEAST 6 pints and do 2 drugs before going onstage.
no more than 4 pints before stage time and then its every man & woman for themselves. We do, however, order our vocalist not to smoke until after the gig as her voice (very occasionally) tends to blow out during a song.
then scream, lie on the floor, abuse the audeince etc
but now it's no alcohol, no dairy (bad for throat), warm water and honey and red bull, plus no screaming only singing and no being nasty to the crowd, they are our friends don't you know.
strepsils, tyrozets, listerine and green tea, all availablr from your local drug pusher...
..I tend to avoid cold drinks as it contracts the vocal chords and dairy as it clogs up your throat... this isn't very rock n roll is it? quick gimme some crack!
one, maybe two pints maximum before we go onstage.
After - CARNAGE!
I think it's important not to let yourself get overtaken and put in a bad performance because it's not woth playing the gig if you are hammered.
