LCD 'All My Friends' cover versions

awisgard [Edit] [Delete] 10 replies 21:00, 26 April '07

So 'All My Friends' is the new LCD Soundsingle. Excellent choice, and Murphy's got a couple of people to cover it as b-sides (and then LCD covering No Love Lost by Joy Division as another extra track).

http://myspace.com/lcdsoundsystem has Franz Ferdinand doing it.

http://www.myspace.com/dfarecords has John Cale doing it.

Obviously, neither touch the original, but is it just me that thinks Cale's version trounces the Franz's?

[I've just realised how JAGgish this post looks, but I'm just curious as to what other people think...]

  • Cale's version

is beautiful. I think it may be better than the original.

  • neither match the original

but they do a good job at keeping the vibe...

Franz's version is good... it would have made a standout track on their next album if they'd actually written it...

Cale's version is ok... it seems like a wierd remix more than a completely different cover.

at the end of the day, its quite exciting to see some of the cream of music, be it NYC legends or 21st Indie mammoths covering the song.

but it just re-instates how untouchable Sound of Silver actually is.

    • Although on the Franz Version

the awful 30 seconds at the end where they try and turn it into Take Me Out is pretty embarassing though.

  • Great choice for a single

I think this is what New Order would sound like if they were still good. Not sure about that Franz Ferdinand cover though
