now i like him.
so, you know, erm...yeah? yeah!
care for him.
You can like what you like and vice versa. But given the sheer number and variety among his albums, and the fact that I have no problem with him personally, and the fact that he's a clear influence on lots of other stuff I love, well, it makes me wonder if I am missing something.
There's not really one song I can hang my hat on....it all seems so.....bland?
that is becoming my "walk into work whilst not actually thinking about how tonk work is" song
not to like certain periods of David Bowie. but surely he's done something you could at least "like"
it is not okay.
it is perfectly ok not to like songs, albums, decades even of his stuff
but if you are saying that you do not like david bowie then you are
d. entirely unaware of his work
to detest, for example, the song Little Wonder. It is NOT ok to dislike Low.
Except Junplanet, 'cos Brainlove gets angry about it.
;) <--- a winky John, IT'S A WINKY.
Everything which I'd normally like is in place. But nothing. Nothing.
at Glastonbury, even though I was tripping my face off.
not even his odd coat
you should rethink your life
"we could be herooooooooes"
what is not to like?
Part of the problem may be that the first film I ever went to see was Labyrinth. I didn't know he was a singer until years later.
And the muppetastic 'Magic Dance' is still the default song I think of when his name comes up.
was obsessed with that scene. I couldn't understand why until I re-watched it at the age of 16 and noticed 'the bulge'.
Musical god etc
the babe with the power!
the power of voodoo
remind me of the babe!
dance magic dance, sing magic sing!
you remind me of the babe
i might be wrong
i heart that song
its totally "you remind me of the babe"
the chick in that film, surprisingly, has gone on to do pretty well for herself, seeing as all those "child" actors from the 80's and early 90's amounted to NOTHING.
much my enduring image of Bowie. As Jareth the goblin king
Cock bulge? Check
Absurd wig? Check
Singing to puppets? Double check
It's becoming clearer where the problem lies
goes as planned, it'll become a death penalty offense...
...Well, the farther and farther we get from his heyday RCA years the more I ease up on the death penalty idea. Let's say, Life in San Quentin.
I say no.
(although, yes, he has made some absolute shit)
he is too arch and diverse. I like some of his music very much, but I couldn't be a 'fan' of his, cos he dabbles too much
Hunky Dory is fab though
should have a copy of 'Low' and '"heroes"'. Those are awesome. But then i'm gay for brian eno.
Hurricane Festival 04, he had a bloody heart attack right after that show
Engels is right; you should all own Low and Heroes! - now go get them!..but dont buy Young Americans, it stinks!
it's okay to not like whatever you want, just because people worship it doesn't mean you have to.
I think the Beatles are a heap of wank moss for example.
more people know this than you might imagine
from 1970 - 1980 it is UNACCEPTABLE to deny that Bowie was the world's unparalleled music genius
and that includes Young Americans
which, I might features sundry Beatles, and is a greeeeaat album. I didnt like it at first tho. But I love it now.
after Sticky Fingers, are complete toss - and the stuff they did before that is of variable quality too.
nothing controversial about that.
Although he cocked up Raw Power.
But having been responsible for resurrecting The Stooges in the first place, I suppose he warrants a modicum of my big love.
I think it's his voice. It's so... dull.
I think his voice is so ordinary. I really don't understand. Please explain! I am genuinely interested.
rich, varied and unique.
and somewhat sinister.
He just sounds like any old wotsit singing.
he just sounds like what you'd hear in the street.
To be fair: I could try a bit harder. Wanna reccomend me some songs please?
everything from hunky dory through to low?
is on hunky dory, amirite?
It's shit (although I love the question mark, it makes saying the song title FUN). Is everything on it the same kind of thing?
I always end up scratching my head when people big up his singing.
This thread thus far has failed to ch-ch-ch-change my mind on the issue
you've got the bowie in you! he's there! i see him!!
a good thing
it's happening.....the spirit of David Bowie has infected me during the course of this discussion.....
whip out the eyeshadow.
.......Jareth the Goblin King......
era of Bowieness......
Actually, I've been lying. I love the song the Laughing Gnome!
You might want to rethink
amazing hair! and those pants!
I think I've made a terrible mistake.
*throws goblin wig in trash can*
