rip them to shreds because they aren't on anticon.
I don't think anyone took that thread too seriously? If they did, they shouldn't have.
Matt just does my head in.
What can I say, I'm judgemental, prickly, Nathan Barley-esque indie scum.
cos i consider matt a friend, and thus an inaccurate dismissal of our music (only one song is electro, but he dislikes the electro "ones" and only one song has any keyboard sounds on it) is quite insulting.
but id consider this thread an over reaction, especially considering that matt openly hates anticon.
It seems like the kind of stuff he would get a big chubby over.
Maybe Anticon is a bit too well known these days.
you dont really understand his music taste at all.
Are you going to ATP? I know someone who has a ticket...
not really liking the line up at all
Well, I'll be thinking of you baby.
There aren't ANY Japanese girls in this band, only one of them wears glasses, and I totally recognise that cymbal sample!
this is pretty ridiculous.
I've happily listened to a HUGE variety of stuff with Matt. The man introduced me to The Exploding Hearts for fucks sakes, one of the most out-and-out guitar-pop bands of all time.
Equally, Matt's face when he and I were in Belgium together watching Two Gallants was one of joy - despite them being a two-piece angsty folk outfit.
It's easy to call Matt names and claim he's an elitist or whatever, but he has a particularly high standard of music that he listens to.
I wish we could all just get along and agree on how mint my hair looks today.
Have you ever spent any time with the man? No.
I come across like an aggro cunt all of the time on this fucking message board, but in real life I'm fucking lovely.
Matt, whilst being mildly dismissive of things he doesn't enjoy is also willing to listen to most anything (which is more than can be said for some others) and let you know what he thinks.
It's easy to confuse honesty with arrogance. Especially online.
sums it all up perfectly... To be honest, I can't wait to see what he's got to say, good or bad - and I'll happily put it up on the Mice Pace because it's bound to be funny.
(Your hair looks strangely like denied golden boot winner of 1992 Guy Whittingham, Crablin)
Us Portsmouth fans must stick together.
He's not a bad person or anything, and I have semi-enjoyed several strangely stilted conversations with him over warm lager. I just find him awfully smug about music, so his doing down of my band touched a nerve.
Me & Mart seem to agree.
*Earth spins off axis*
I can't see your hair Colin.
that anyone on here who makes a statement regarding music could come across as smug.
Everyone on this thread has certainly done it before.
ace. thank you. x
what you always do ?
In fact go and get signed to Anticon, then we can be friends.
( be your friend ).
It works with signed to Anticon too...
Only I have a copy of the map.
about a treasure ?
the likes of which have been seen since Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom.
I enjoy simple life...
Oh wait, that was The Last Crusade.
What an awful thought !
Seriously I can't imagine how eternal life might be.
It's the idea of death that makes life good.
Thinking about death just makes me feel queasy and anxious.
to do anything if you know you'll have the chance to do it tomorrow, in one week, in one month, in one year, in one century...
Growing older then old makes you do things.
i spent 3 minutes at best on all of those myspace accounts.
I have to go and meet Alice now for Krispy motherfuckin' Kreme.
Not enough to judge then...
It's better that way.
Having read what he had to say I found three mins was pretty much perfect....
If it's good then it'll hold you for longer...
It often takes much longer.
There does have to be an initial thing to get you interested, but I find that developing my understanding of things takes longer.
That's why my reviews are always late.
But if he was giving serious, in depth reviews based upon a lengthy listening sesh, there's no way the thread would have been as funny as it so very much is.I know it's shitty having someone have a pop at you, but get into the spirit of things, there's always going to be someone that doesn't like what you're doing (several in my case), so they may as well have something funny to say about it...
it was "this doesnt sound like what i want it to sound like, so is below average"
it wasnt phrased in a way that was supposed to be funny
i dont think
im not accusing him of failing at trying to be funny
but that's just me...
For what it's worth, I quite liked your stuff when I had a listen the other day, and a review like that wouldn't sway me to think otherwise. I'd just think "your loss" and move on...
It's just something i like to think happened.
My friends and i do rap, though.
ABERDEEN AND SOMETIMES GLASGOW, WHAT YOU SAYIN'
CRUNK DOWN THE SIDE
YOU AND ME WON'T BE PAYIN'
"Any reviewer who expresses rage and loathing for a novel* is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae."
*see also 'piece of music'
The Kaiser Chiefs are less fun than a hot fudge sunday though.
It's more like getting into a tank and running over a disabled puppy.
the thread and most of his criticisms seem to have more to do with production values and sounds than with songwriting or musicality.
therefore I do not care for his opinion.
i particularly dislike his dismissal of Modernaire for having 'cheap synths'. It's a microkorg, okay? a pleasant if unamazing, but widely enjoyed budget line synth. what the hell does owning one have to do with song quality?
i mean really. do you listen to records and go 'amazing, this synth must have cost thousands of pounds!'?
Is that on youtube?
Put those wanking gloves back in their drawer.
I HAVE looked...I'd quite like to read it
