Is there anyone even mildly excited by the possibility of a solo outing from the 'Talented' Gallagher?
you're that hilariously outrageous person that goes around being 'blunt' and nasty aren't you?
God. You're probably the saddest of the sad round these parts.
username begins with a w?
if he keeps it simple i'm sure it could be could. If however, it's just an oasis album with Noel singing, it'll be shit.
then there is very little point to this.
is acoustic wankery? is it wankery because it's acoustic or acoustic plus wankery?
open minded a listen from me as anything else would. I rather like Noel.
some of the b-sides that Noel Gallagher wrote and performed (more or less) solo on their mid 90s singles are decent songs.
But the guy has forgotten how to write a decent song and just comes up with embarassing hooks and predictably boring choruses.
We all know any solo album will be shit. Come on now we do.
People get stuck in ruts; Oasis has been such a heeee-ooooh-gely profitable thing for so long now. I guess when you're watching the cash rolling in you don't want to rock the boat too much.
Let's see if he's got some stuff that wouldn't have suited Oasis. Perhaps even some of the aforementioned 'acoustic wankery.'
capable of 'acoustic wankery'?
what it is!
clever and intricate picking acoustic style, but that might just be me.
But who cares? I don't want Noel's solo record to sound like Nick Drake or something. I want it to sound like Noel's acoustic bsides.
Strumming and singing. Its a bit below most of the users here, but its bound to be a massive success. Noel can't go wrong.
Current, and new 'alternative' music is in such a dry, boring state right now. We have to rely on bands who we know are good, and who've been at it for a few years, like Oasis and The White Stripes.
New bands, especially new British bands, are most of the time, collectively dreadful. No-one seems to've moved on since this Joy Division obsession in 2004, and its just like a hail of Jam rip-offs or post punk revivalists.
Noel Gallagher's probably one of the most talented rock n roll writers alive. If he makes this record, it will be a million times better than anything DiS has given 9 in the past five years. I know this and he hasn't even recorded yet.
For bands we 'know' are good like Oasis. I think you need to put your feelers out a bit wider before you label new British bands as 'collectively dreadful'. Your last paragraph was fantastic though. The last sentence made me almost certain that you were being sarcastic.
There's no need to put my feelers out, because I won't find anything interesting. The only bands that get coverage are bands who are cool and trying to be intensely original. The trends are really shit right now, and everyone seems to look down their noses at basic rock n roll music.
Still, I'm happy to have it like this. If I heard really good music every time I turned the radio on, I'd be pissed off.
I spose you'll like Bloc Party etc. But its a matter of taste. I prefer 'workmanlike' music, I guess.
You're right, a lot of bands that get coverage are cool, but what about the British bands that aren't getting as much coverage? What about the UK bands who aren't signed or are signed to a small label? What about bands who play at your local toilet venue? You should open your mind a bit and try some new ways of discovering new music, you might just like it.
was that it was new. now it isn't. it'd be nice to get excited about something new.
plus, purely from me own point of view, I can't enjoy a band if i don't think they have any imagination and that they're just doing music as a career. you've a safer shot at having a career if you don't take any risks like originality. as oasis have proved for the last ten years.
There hasn't been anything completely brand new in popular music for years. Everyone's going to take ideas from everyone.
The Beatles were hardly ever doing anything completely original, but they made better music than anyone else.
I think everything worth hearing has been done. There's possibly some magical things yet to be done on laptops and keyboards out there, but for instruments, that's it.
Then there's the fact that not everyone wants to take risks. What if you don't pull it off? You'd be kicking yourself thinking 'Why didn't I stick to writing the same stuff?'. Or maybe they just enjoy it.
Anyway. Originality = not necessarily goodality, in my eyes. Genius steals.
there's a chance this could be good. on the basis of what someone else said about noel's more low key b-sides.
BUT on the basis that he hasn't written anything worthy of his own name in about ten years I'm not going to hold my breath.
You have to remember Noel's been writing for a band fronted by Liam for the past ten years, trying to keep Oasis fans happy.
This time he's on his own, and he'll be writing for himself. I can't wait.
hope you're right.
but I've noticed any frustrated flirtations with experimentalism/deeper lyrics/intereting song structures in what of heard of oasis' recent stuff.
you can pretty much bet safely that this will sound like an album of oasis b sides but that could either be ace or crap.
my money's on crap to be honest.
oasis just over do everything, as in over-produce it, when it comes to recording the albums. Some of the demos I've heard for songs that later appeared on the last 3 albums sounded sooo much better when it was just Noel singing over some pretty sparse and basic production - then you hear the album versions and it sounds pretty shite in comparison.
Of course Noel himself will be part of the problem, so he'll probably fall into the same old trap of fucking up the albums versions of songs that sounded fine as demoes.
"he hasn't written anything worthy...in 10 years" comment.
I think he can write decent songs still, but they tend to get 'lost' underneath the production.
the blandest, most workmanlike record of the year is because kelly jones and john power have also put out solo albums.
i mean a bland, by rote, uninspired effort. much like oasis' recent output.
guntrip's racist against poor people. the fiend.
i often drive my hummer into council estates and throw mouldy bread at them. i take great delight in watching filthy urchin children scrabble around in the dirt and broken glass, trying to seize a piece of the greened bread.
i put marmite on the bread.
refers to as charity work.
He has written the occasional good song. I doubt it though.
I can say that with certainty
as we think it will be, there will be absolutely no surprise about how it sounds, it'll contain good songs - but not memorable songs - that students will learn how to play in their dorm and play to their mates, and it'll have been forgotten about in a matter of months when the next oasis album is due...
I think there is a good chance it'll be better than any recent Oasis album. Noel is the most self-aware musician around - if you think he doesn't know that their latest stuff has been average you're kidding yourself - and since he could have put out a solo record at any time, I doubt he would do it now if it was complete wank.
solo album and there is not likely to be.
I will endevour to get confirmation (from the horses mouth) on whether he is or isn't and be sure to let you all know.
Why would Amy Winehouse know anything about it?
go on, get a 'DiS Exclusive' and give Diver wood.
no solo album to be released there was never any plans for a solo from Noel. It was just a case of the media putting 2 + 2 together and comimg up with 22. But do expect a new Oasis LP sometime next year. Thats cleared that one up.
..i mean bryher. We were all losing a serious amount of sleep over that - yawn - one.
Thats all I have to say on the matter.
