Exclusive - Field Music to hibernate
Band say they're "sick" of their music
17 Apr 07 - Sunderland three-piece Field Music say their time as a band could be over, we can reveal.
They came into 6 Music to play a hub session for Gideon Coe this morning, promoting their latest single She Can Do What She Wants, which is out this week.
But that could be the last you hear from them - they're going back to proper jobs, and although they're all recording solo albums at the moment, they're giving the band a rest.
They told us: "We basically want to do things that aren't classed as 'Field Music indie band.' It just makes us sick so I we want to do something else. We want to still work with the people we like recording with and recording in the way that we do and make the music that we do. But we don't want to have to compete in the sphere of indiedom."
They continued: "We're not going to be a band for a bit. But Field Music aren't going to be over because we've already got a bank account under the name, so we'll just continue of a company. It's time to go and do some real work."
The band said they had now wound down their promotional activities for current album Tones Of Town and were now looking to get "proper jobs".
The outfit's last planned dates are 27 April at Edinburgh Bongo Club, 9 May HMV London Oxford Street and 27 June Leeds Irish Centre.
Gutted. Field Music - simply two of the best records from a UK small band in recent years. And when they were good live, they were fucking excellent.
