There is an old board game called Risk in which you have to conquer to the world. I would imagine that LOTR risk is similair except instead of being the red army etc you are Dwarves and Elves etc.
As fullerov says, it's a board game where you have to take over the world. In the normal version of Risk you just have to conquer as much of the board as you can, or in a new-ish update each player gets a mission like 'Take over 3 continents'.
The Lord of the Rings game involves the same basic idea but the map is of Middle Earth (the land from LOTR) not the real Earth and you have various mission cards that involve you getting extra points if you control certain territories, or different events from the LOTR books/films.
Re: Lord of the Rings Risk
i can't get involved with anything that is unironic about the name "Bilbo". Plus my nickname last year was Frodo due to my mop. *grrr*

My mate just ordered the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Edition Risk (oo err) from a far off land called America.
Wanna play it....NOW.
Any other LOTR risk lovers?

There, you can't wait to play it now, I bet.
Re: Lord of the Rings Risk
I didn't think it was *that* nerdy. Certainly not as nerdy as Warhammer, surely?!? (which I've thankfully never played).

Get bored 2 times before the end of the game.
