Pearl Jam were alright, occasionally they were great - 'Even Flow' is their best song in my opinion, and they have a few other songs of a similar quality and loads of other songs that are decent.
I guess they were unfortunate because they would innevitably be compared to one of the greatest bands of all time - Nirvana. Wasn't really their fault, but if it wasn't for Nirvana then no one would have cared about their neil young rip off take on alt-rock, so I guess they always had to deal with the comparison.
People who think Pearl Jam are better than Nirvana - fucked in the head.
I think there's much more of an affinity with the Who than Young (that might be pedantic, I dont know). Vitalogy is a brilliant album too.
Pearl Jam to me didn't quite have the same sort of raw punk energy that made Nirvana so great but they still released three excellent albums (the first three) and the one released last year wasn't bad either. The quality in between = not so good.
I would also say that Rearviewmirror is ever so slightly better than Evenflow in my opinion.
I didnt think too much of Riot Act, some of Vedders lyrics are a bit jarring .But Binaural has some of my favourite Pearl Jam songs like Nothing As It Seems
I think that Yield and Riot Act are the only two albums I didnt really like
is the only one even remotely good, surely? And that mainly cos it's got 'Bugs' on it.
I wish I'd seen them live before they got old. Still amazing live, mind, but there's less swinging from the ceiling these days.
NoCode and Yield.
at Leeds, I thought. Just seemed a really great bloke who's written some awesome lyrics, has a brutal voice and commands a stage.
Also, he's fitter than me, yet much older.
Pearl Jam were a great band. Completely different band to Nirvana, but still great (although not in the same league). Comparison is innevitable, may be very different musically, but they tapped in the same demographic.
I dunno, I wasn't really old enough to properly experience Nirvana...but they were the greatest for sure. Don't really want to see PJ nowadays - am sure they can still kick it live, but that time has past. hearing 'even flow', 'alive' and 'jeremy' live would still be incredible, but...I don't know.
some of the wankiest shit I've read on this site. good work!
"dig deep, but don't dig too deep,
when it's late to see the hole is empty and oh so deadly."
WERE a great band.
Released one of the best albums of last year IMO...
They still can cut it live too.
