any idea of stage times?
J_Wo didn't disgrace himself but support acts always seem to get that annoying echoy, muffled sound and so I couldn't really hear his stuff so well.
Viva Voce were fun but did she really have to play a freak out solo in EVERY song? It got a bit tiresome toward the end.
As to The Shins, I really enjoyed the gig, though I was a bit concerned when they opened with the first three tracks off the new album in order. Luckily they went off into a bit more of a random set after that.
Good things: Getting Buffy the Vampire Slayer in from Viva Voce for vocals and shit.
Meh things: Playing the Pink Floyd cover. I object to this on two levels:
1) The same reason I don't like Nirvana Unplugged, that bands with great songs don't need to bother with another band's songs.
2) Less time for their own material and given they didn't play Sealegs or Pulling Pins, I was a bit sad about that.
But it was a great gig, I thouht.
teh floyd? which floyd song was it?
he forgot the lyrics to the final chorus! :D
I dunno, I was a bit disappointed-too many slow songs, no Fighting in a Sack, too many filler songs from albums- sound wasn't great either.
The first support act (Jeremy W something) was alright, but a bit derivative of The Shins (!), Ben Folds that kind of thing..
Viva Voce were good enough, the man was a bit annoying thuogh "it's new to us, so it's new to you!"
but The Shins were ruined by poor sound, and they just didn't have enough..spark!
not that i really am a Floyd nut though
great show last night, much better than last time i saw them, Mercer was in fine form
Viva Voce chicky is such a hottie!
But the OTHER problem I have with covering that is that Breathe isn't really complete for me with out Time because Time has a reprise of Breathe at the end...
"Jeremy W something"
The girl from Viva Voce for some reason looked really like Buffy last night. It was probably the wavey hair thing and stuff. It made me lol a little.
even though i've seen them a few times i'm always so impressed with his voice live. When he reached the high notes in the first song it really sent shivers down my spine. And he was looking pretty dandy.....i may grow a beard.
I preferred the "I just nipped over from my other band, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead" look of the other guy. :D
mr mercer had a certain karl kennedyness about him. this made me chuckle.
I only just realised Pam Berry existed. I just thought it was the intro to Phantom Limb. Strange...
does anyone have a setlist for the manchester gig on tuesday?
a great gig. What was up with the crowd though? Hardly any bloody movement. I was ready to go nuts, which I did do, but only about 5 other people had the same idea.
absolutely love that band on record gah!
song was the best!
took an AGE last night to get in!
ended up coming in towards the end of Walmsley
and the doors still weren't open. rubbish. queue only took about 15 minutes when i got there though, walmsley was on when i got in.
still, feel a bit apathetic towards the gig..it was good, but..i dunno, wasn't brilliant! and i love the shins.
The Shins ... love 'em to bits ... but as a gig it could have been much better.
The set-list was a mess for starters - most of their killer tunes (for a live gig, anyway) came out in the first half-hour ... and the encore only kicked in on their third and final with So Says I (which reeks of Dexys, don't you think?).
They were tight as f*ck mind ... and the boy Mercer can sure carry a tune.
