does anyone know if theyre going to be playing any dates on this fair isle this summer? i never know where to look.
I think with Beastie Boys and Bjork.
song the reids helped their sister write? if so i didnt really like it so much!
with help from many indie people...
sorry. i shall check it aht, thanks.
it's not bad ( help from Ben Lurie, Phil KIng, the Pastels... ) but certainly not a patch for J & M Chain...
Someone knows if the Freeheat album was really released in the USA ? I can't find it.
Comparing BRMC to the JAMC is fucking horrible.
Its like saying 'THE LIBERTIENS ARE JUST TH ECLASH.'
JAMC were so much better...
what's the appeal of JAMC? i mean, they made a few good songs, but it's largely all Velvets rips that came too long after the whole DIY scene in the late 70s/early 80s to be a part of that. the 'shock tactics' with the live shows wasn't new either. they're not a band i'd object to or anything, but they just seem to be at least 5 years too late to be really relevant with what they were doing.
does it have to fit into a continuum? by that logic galaxie 500 are irrelevant too, being even more VU rips then the JAMC. i think the appeal is that they wrote really good pop songs, exploring the interesting balance between noise and discordancy and tight melodies.
the 'exploring the interesting balance between noise and discordancy and tight melodies' was something that was pervasive in british music half a decade before them: it's like if a band came out now trying to play the 'Libertines sound', basically. It's not to say that they're bad, but they were so late that i find it strange they're held up as innovators.
Galaxie 500 might have ripped off the Velvets, but their band set up and the slow tempos was something new at the time.
i'm not really fussed on Pixies either though, in all honesty. they remind me more of Pere Ubu than anyone else in particular though, but that's largely just the vocal style.
That's the appeal.
'seminal band!' '10 out of 10!' type praise.
i enjoy their records, but there's nothing to them really.
but still really exciting music !
i guess i have to see something new in a band to find them exciting.
and lots of people would argue their particular use of white noise was new. (yes yes velvets, etc, but i would say they really dont sound alike at all). if you're implying they werent really original then we could have a whole big thrashing out of what constitutes newness, but neither of us want that.
you say that what they were doing was being explored by other bands before, but we could say that about everything really
1. I-deserve... - i say the same things about bands 10 years older than JAMC and will never be convinced by their fans(who happen to be ten years older than I am - I am 31). I'm glad you do like them, but am sad you'll never really like them - as they were amazing in their time and place.
2. Let's get back on the subject here! Anyone know if the best band ever is playing any UK dates? I'm looking very lustfully at summercase in barcalen as JAMC are there and need to confirm a date with them... just listened to the best of tonight funny enough..
to have to go to scotland
