for the first time on my life.
OH my god good
'..& Nico' is the best rock 'n' roll album of ALL time.
Its very good, and I like the fact they were experimenting and being dangerous and stuff.
And 'All Tomorrow's Parties' is the best thing ever. But its still not as good as Revolver.
Sure it's pioneering etc. but I think quite a few other Beatles albums have much better songs.
I'm just comparing them coz they're the same year aren't they?
Or am I wrong? :'(
*mental note to self- hurry up and send wrightylew a cd*
Then you need the first three Nico albums. All utterly incredible.
Lou Reed does songs about drugs like not other, Heroine is such a brutally disgusting song, no glamour, no aint drugs cool shit, just cold hard description. Amazing.
i feel just like jesus' son?
is such a CLAAAARN
my favourite three recently:
Venus In Furs
All Tomorrow's Parties
they're so good.
from errr, Fopp (sorry Fopp haterz) yesterday. I really really like All Tomorrow's Parties, it's all so hypnotic.
Has some fantastic guitar playing on it.
I have it on vinyl (from Fopp, no less), and that's always the song that grabs me.
is a drag queen. What's to hate?? A wide range of alternative music at dirt cheap prices... What more could you ask for?
Many of which sell vinyl. Fopp have a small selection of vinyl, and none of them are new releases.
I like Fopp for cd's though. I can fill gaps in my collection with stuff like Sonic Youth and The Beatles for £5.
i tend to buy new stuff elsewhere
If people who are still attached to vinyl are being affected by Fopp selling such massive amounts of cheap, superb CDs, I won't shed no tears.
some questionable business practises apparently.
still, they're changing the way HMV / Virgin operate, particularly regarding selling older CDs, which can only be a good thing..
for writing things about such apparent "questionable business" in a blog...
Velvet Underground and Nico is one of my favourite albums, which I often overlook. Waiting for the Man is brilliant.
Sister Ray is by far the best thing they've done
as well as the main four. It has some pretty good stuff on it.
I'm not sure if Squeeze counts though. Does anyone in the world actually own that?
I love Loaded too. For a 'sell out' its great, just a collection of lovely pop songs.
There are some good songs on it. It's not VU though. It's basically a Doug Yule solo LP.
John Cale and Nico have some fantastic albums between them. Lou Reed's Transformer and Metal Machine Music is a must as well. I think you can get two Lou Reed albums for £6 in Fopp.
nico reissue. The Marble Index is just incredible.
Anyone know if Desertshore is as good as Marble Index/Chelsea Girl?
to Marble Index, it has a nicer sound. I think that's just me though.
Jaaaaaaaanitttttooooooor aaaaarrrrrvvv Luuuuuunnnaaaaaacccccyyyyyyyyyyy
next week at...
To celebrate the release of ‘The Frozen Borderline’ compilation (free copies of which we’ll be giving away, courtesy of Rhino Records) and 40 years since the first Velvet Underground album, Sonic Cathedral presents a very special Sunday afternoon and evening paying tribute to our favourite icon – Nico. We will be screening rare footage, including the little seen 1972 film ‘The Inner Scar’, and playing music by and inspired by Nico and the Velvet Underground. To conclude there will be some very special live performances, including never to be repeated cover versions. The full line-up will be revealed on the day, but confirmed to date are Dot Allison, The Butterflies Of Love and The Left Outsides.

The day I go on holiday. I hate you!
is my favourite song.
Amazing music and even better lyrics. The way Reed justifies it and embraces masochism as the only alternative to 'society' is grim and exciting in equal measure.
but I just love the song so much.
that you can't not like.
My brother doesn't like them, and I can see where he's coming from.
Cue: 'He must clearly be a fucking idiot then.'
namely everything ever recorded by Nico, for a start. i <3 the velvet underground.

I realised last year that "The Velvet Underground & Nico" is my favourite album ever.
there's lots of it and lots of it's good.
and i'm fine thanks.
you are the wrongest you have ever been - the door is over there - use it.
I'm definitely ignoring them.
and so on.
