are fucking shit aren't they?
Yeah they're shit.
'If I ever get my hands on the fucking son of a bitch who built that
fucking plane, I'll rip his goddamn fucking face off'
Colourbox did it well
but i generally find that its a bit lazy.
Westworld (the film with Yul Brenner as a cowboy robot)
name-checked in Malkmus's Jo Jo's Jacket...
Tricky done a great one with a sample from Blade runner in.
"look we sampled a film! lets cover rolling stones for 5 minutes"
by Saint Etienne had lots of snippets from film dialogue, and is a great record.
The first track on Last Night In Town (great album), starts with a clip from that film Seven, with a woman saying "I hate this city" rather mournfully.
Then it launches straight into frenzied tech hardcore. Yes!
would not exist without them, nor would powerviolence. just listen to spazz, its amazing
"johnny, do you like films about...gladiators?" WOARGH WOARGH WOARGH WOARGH
on the Twelve album, Be Careful What You Don't Wish For that have clips of speaking on them, though I'm not sure if it's from films...
Really works well though...
"Yippe Kay Yay Motherfucker"
in one song.
Not a sample, a quote. But worth mentioning.
have loads of film qoutes at the start of their songs, but I have no idea which films they're from. Probably really bad zombie movies, hopefully.
That one works pretty well I reckon.
im not too bothered about it but the singer really wanted it in....fascist!
can be amazing!
most of the songs on the first two therapy mini albums. blood embrace by superwolf...that primal scream one...
loads of white zombie and fear factory tracks use sci-fi samples really nicely
Ned's Atomic Dustbin, off God Fodder can't remember which one, samples Die Hard, "Why don't you wake up and smell what you're shovelling"
'Have you passed through this night' (i think its called that)
has a great sample from The Thin Red Line on it.
'Who Doing this? Who killing us? Robbing us of light and life' etc
use samples from films made by the band members mostly, their website has a comprehensive list of where every sample is from.
i've been curious about a few of em...
by the Clash has some awkward Taxi Driver quotes about halfway through. Shame, because the bass is great in that song.
starts with a sample from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me along the lines of "if you were falling in space, do you think you'd slow down or just get faster and faster.."
plus liquid swords (the album) contains numerous samples from Shogun Assassin, which was the fun time sleepy film in Kill Bill 2.
or is hip hop sampling films cheating?
the Tricky one from Blade Runner was the first that came to mind though. "let me tell you about my mother", fitting since the album Maxinquaye is devoted to his dead mother
they're not necessarily shit
E=MC² by Big Audio Dynamite is great
