Half way between Kate Bush and Dido.
except any link with kate would be an insult to her
I don't know how you do that shit with the > and the < or maybe I need a -
I think that sums up my thoughts on Bat For Lashes. On paper/press release it sounds utterly fabulous, but in reality, the hats and instruments are more impressive than the songs
Nothing like either
It's more about the music than the vocals
with extremely posh girls in music that aren't sarah nixey
cos she's more like one of the rebellious posh girls from a ballard novel
in your FACE brain man
Although live far, far outstrips recorded.
I also have a huge crush on her.
..her video from when she appeared on the Culture Show, and it is now on her website.
I think this means that we're officially an item.
to the album once.
it's not very interesting is it?
but a pleasing listen...
that you're rubbish :P
john, have you seen her live? because live she is a little bit special. her recorded material doesn't seem to do her justice.
there's something about her vocal inflection that reminds me of bjork...
I don't like the album in the slightest.
I have seen her live - she was ace
She's so fucking bad. So, so, so rubbish I cant even concentrate now. grrrrrrr
Got played the album at the weekend but was only half listening.
Sounded okay I suppose.
is Sol Seppy not more loved?
I like Sol seppy
It all just looks a bit... forced
Ha ha!! 'Pain..Pain is the monkey!"
Before she even physically released any music she had a two page spread in the G2 section of the Guardian discussing her 'look'..I wish she'd fuck off with her forced kookiness. It is total Nathan Barley folk.
Yep. If it was just her, simply writing & playing songs, it'd be fine, they could be judged on their own worth. Instead there's all this extranious toss that is completely off putting, and makes it way harder for cynics like me to ever take her seriously. I saw part of her set at ATP (plus that Culture Show performance), it was the pits.
Loving the bad uncle comparison. But yeah, 'forced' is the same thing that comes to mind for me as well. And maybe.. too measured? The instrumentations are nice, as is her voice, but it kinda feels like there's no interesting songwriting going on. Barely any songwriting at all, actually.
there was one song I nabbed off soulseek or something before her album was out. It was just her vocals and a piano, and it was lovely; despite having listened to the album and seen her live since, it's the only thing they've/she's done I can remember a thing about.
half way between tori amos and bjork.
her records don't really do her stunning live shows justice though.
I don't like it at all.
Dido was seriously the closest comparison I came up with to how her album sounds.
Any Bjork comparison is waaaaay off the mark.
I don't really think you can compare her to anyone on the current music scene, which is part of the appeal. It's true that the album is a bit 7/10 but live she's a 9.
it was the first thing that popped into my head when i saw her supporting cocorosie.
Heck I've even seen bjork at a bat for lashes show, most probably listening to the comparison for herself!
big bjork sound happening, but there's a pretty key difference in that the crazy icelandic one crafts all her music around really strong songs. You can strip a Bjork track down to its basics and it still sounds great. Strip a Bat For Lashes tune and there's.. nothing.
more bjork. Much more bjork.
