What do they sound like.
...and the Rat is their best song by a squillion miles. Their debut's alright as is their last one but they've never come close to Is This It.
or rather jonathon*fire*eater that they used to be (I may be completely wrong)
..and they said they weren't really mates with the other 'NY scene' bands - i think he felt a bit pissed off that the NY scene had exploded and kind of left them behind...
is the best 'indie disco' song...EVER!!
TO BE ASKIN A FAVOUR
makes me dance like someone having an epileptic fit.
Surely you've heard The Rat though? First two albums [Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone and Bows & Arrows] are amazing, not especially fond of their last one [A Hundred Miles Off].
The Rat and Little House of Savages are GREAT. I can't think of anything else worth writing home about, I can't really listen to the album in one sitting 'cos his voice annoys me after a while.
really lovely, beautiful, delicate young-man piano-y NYC stuff.
Everything since - blundering indie-rock shit.
The Rat is THE SHIT.
First album is best though, yeah.
Is just as good as The Rat
BLUSTERING INDIE WUBBISH.
Wrongitty wrong wrong wrong.
the first is full on dreamy pop, some quite abstract, minimal stuff, but alwaysw incredibly satisfying.
bows and arrows is a straighter indie rock record, the rat, little house of savages, and the title track are alll incredible.
one hundred miles off is like dylan crossed with their first album with brass sections, and is also great.
get them all,seriously good band.
and the drumming is amazing on every album.
they've got some good stuff, but a lot of the time they seem as bland as The Killers. fact.
but then....I do like the Killers
taking milk away from Kids.
When they're not i am fairly indifferent
which is basically like the strokes with keyboards and incredible drumming, and is basically one of the best songs ever. completely ennervating, tingles down the spine desperate break up song
its basically their only song that sounds like the strokes
the only album that ive fully listened to is Bows And Arrows, which has The Rat on it, and it has stuff that sounds like dylan, stuff the sounds almost post rock, bar room folk songs, but not in a disjointed way
i think the record after b&a had more of a blues influence, from what i remember
ahm SHO'! weeeve been thrrrru thisss befooooooooooooooooo
the rat, rue the day, everyone who pretended to like me have gone, we've been had, etc...
thinking The Rat is one of the best songs ever. You should listen to this Canadian band that have been touring recently, the Observer reckon they're useful.
there are few perfect songs in existance but that's one of them
I can only presume that I've been listening to a different song.
youre right and everyone else is wrong
"The Rat" is great, other stuff possibly less so.
I saw 'em live a couple of years ago (Highbury Garage I think). Honestly was one of the dullest gigs I've ever seen. Might have been partly 'cos of the sound but they also seemed to have a lack of good songs and an inability to connect with the audience.
But "The Rat" is indeed a brilliant, brilliant song.
the first album, everyone who pretended... is one of my favourite albums ever. it's absolutely gorgeous, the tinkly piano, the singers drawl, the spacious off kilter drums, the stabbing guitars. everything about it fits.
the other albums are great but not up to the first one.
Cold War Kids. Only first.
