That Billy Bragg song about burning Union Jacks, or Irish Blood, English Heart by Morrissey?
Not that i can recite them or anything. But Irish Blood, English Heart is rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrubbish.
I've been dreaming of a time when
To be English is not to be baneful
To be standing by the flag not feeling
Shameful, racist or partial
anyone had forgotten Madstock, eh Steve?
by Paul McCartney and Wings?
then definitely the Morrissey one.
I'm a huge fan of Billy Bragg but I do think Take Back the Union Jack is absolutely cringe-worthy in places.
What he's doing to Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards to make it more 2007.
"One leap forwards, two leaps back - will YouTube give MTV the sack?"
In places updating the references work and some it just made no sense and was embarassing.
The worst was "If you've got a blacklist I wanna be on it" being turned into "if you've got a website I wanna be it", simply 'cos I think the original line is a brilliant "I hate everything you stand for" lyric and the updated version is just, well, shit.
Irish Blood is brilliant so there
We all know what happened at Madstock Thommo...
A gay man minced with the Union Jack in front of a largely racist crowd, cheapening their flag.
An act of bravery rather than idiocy I would venture
