      LordLuciusBanter @yes_ | 7 Mar '07, 17:29 | X
  • Probably Not THE Best

But certainly one of. Most of the songs are what pop punk bands tend to forget, write them SHORT and write them CATCHY

  • nope

i would say enema of the state or dude ranch are better, so is nimrod.

  • The best pop punk album...

    is the Buzzcocks singles compilation.

Sum 41 were liked by so many idiots at school, that's all I can remmeber of them.

  • I love this album.

    You may be right.

    IrishMagpie | 7 Mar '07, 17:10 | X
    • Does This Look Infected is also good..

but it kinda paved the way for Sum 41 becoming serious, and therefore shit.

Blink 182 made the same mistake eventually.

      IrishMagpie @IrishMagpie | 7 Mar '07, 17:11 | X
      • Yeah

Actually, does this look infected is my favourite.
Perfect balance between pop punk and being "serious"

        yes_ @IrishMagpie | 7 Mar '07, 17:18 | X
      • The last Blink album was

        ace!!!

        fullerov @IrishMagpie | 7 Mar '07, 17:32 | X
        • ^this

I wouldn't say it was particularly 'poppy', though.

          waterwings @fullerov | 7 Mar '07, 17:37 | X
          • Pop genius, surely?

            loque @waterwings | 7 Mar '07, 22:57 | X
            • Well, sort of, yes.

Granted, their last album still had 'pop sensibilies' (horrible phrase), although they seemed to go beyond that and expand their sound.

              waterwings @loque | 7 Mar '07, 23:30 | X
  • its better than does this look infected

    • some good bands

      in that list.

Not all Pop-Punk by the strictest definition.

    • u missed out punchline

      and midtown
and i dont really think you can class brand new as pop punk

      sophiacherryx @Effloresce_Sean | 7 Mar '07, 22:54 | X
      • You could

        on their debut.

        fullerov @sophiacherryx | 7 Mar '07, 22:56 | X
        • Hmmm i guess

but they were still kinda emo-y and a bit too rocky.

          sophiacherryx @fullerov | 8 Mar '07, 01:53 | X
          • it's got so many classic pop-punk hallmarks, though!

the slighty cringing lyrics about girls, the standard final acoustic song about friends, the fact 90% of the songs have a half-time "rock out" breakdown, the not-fully-developed waily vocals...

            pop-punktastic

            Effloresce_Sean @sophiacherryx | 8 Mar '07, 02:03 | X
  • ..

Bouncing Souls - How I Spent My Summer Vacation

    Anything by The Lawrence Arms.

    shucks | 7 Mar '07, 19:43 | X
    • Hmm

      Lifetime aren't pop-punk, surely

      Fallout_at_the_Boy @shucks | 7 Mar '07, 19:47 | X
      • yes!

i saw the souls last month as well. tut for forgetting that.

and of course lifetime are pop-punk. all their songs are poppy as hell. they're no heavier than anything the descendents put out.

        Effloresce_Sean @Fallout_at_the_Boy | 7 Mar '07, 19:51 | X
        • :)

Bouncing Souls are fucking great. 'Gone' might well be one of the most perfect pop-punk songs ever.

          shucks @Effloresce_Sean | 7 Mar '07, 19:59 | X
          • Hooray!

Good call on How I spent my Summer Vacation, superb album.

Descendents - Milo Goes to College is IMO the definitive pop punk album. Others off the top of my head... Ahhh I have to go listen to the Descendents now :D

            Millencolin - Pennybridge Pioneers
            Audio Karate - Space Camp
            NUFAN - Leche Con Carne
            MXPX - Lie in General
            Ataris - San Dimas

Am I right in assuming the album is bland?

        Kayleia @chuckbarris | 8 Mar '07, 09:18 | X
    • Nah nah naaaaah.

      Top 3 'punk-pop' albums:-

      1) Blink 182 - 'Blink 182'
      2) The Movielife - 'This Time Next Year'
      3) Green Day - 'Nimrod'

Special mention to Alkaline Trio - 'From Here To Infirmary'.

To be quite honest, I find a lot of the other stuff in this genre pretty unlistenable.

      waterwings | 7 Mar '07, 23:34 | X
      • no oen has mentioned the first two alkaline trio albums. they aren't debatable. just forget 'crimson

although i did forget 'this time next year'. gutted.

        Effloresce_Sean @waterwings | 8 Mar '07, 00:20 | X
        • Any Alkaline Trio effort...

After 'From Here...' has been pretty bog standard. This thread has made me go back to a lot of old stuff I own...

I want more Descendents love. 'Hope' is just amazing as a song. Just, amazing.

          chuckbarris @Effloresce_Sean | 8 Mar '07, 09:34 | X
    • Hm.

Could go on for hours with this one, suffice to say that I'd listen to Blink 182 over Sum 41 any day... unless it's Blink's last album, which was bloody awful.

      onesixfive | 8 Mar '07, 07:04 | X
      • ha youre WRONG

        alcxxk @onesixfive | 8 Mar '07, 08:52 | X

New Found Glory - New found Glory

It's one of my favourites of all time... ahem.

      Kayleia | 8 Mar '07, 09:17 | X
      • I saw them many moons ago...

Supported by RX Bandits and Fenix TX. God that was a long time ago... The first 4-5 tracks off the S/T are ridiculously good.

        chuckbarris @Kayleia | 8 Mar '07, 09:35 | X
        • So they are

          claybaby @chuckbarris | 8 Mar '07, 10:22 | X
    • I'm gonna go home and listen to this tonight

I forgot how much I used to love it.

I saw them off the back of this album. they were awesome.

      fat lip = instant happiness

      chunty | 8 Mar '07, 10:21 | X
      • really?

I thought they were bloody awful when I saw them touring "all killer..."

        shucks @chunty | 8 Mar '07, 11:49 | X
        • well I remember them being awesome

I was in a high state of excitement though at being at a gig I'd actually chosen to go to.

I remember bizzy-D being tiny and squeaky.

          chunty @shucks | 8 Mar '07, 14:01 | X
          • hmm...

don't get me wrong, I'd wanted to see them, but I just thought they were terrible. Reel Big Fish were supporting I seem to remember; they were ace.

            shucks @chunty | 8 Mar '07, 14:22 | X
            • I remember them being ace too

You're probably right. I was just really excited to be there. they could have got up there and done a jig and I would've still been happy!! Now I'm much more critical of gigs I go to...

              chunty @shucks | 8 Mar '07, 14:25 | X
              • I think the highlight

was the drummer's singing during Pain for Pleasure and the dude from RBF playing guitar during one of their songs. Did you see the other support band, Wilt?

                shucks @chunty | 8 Mar '07, 14:34 | X
                • I think I did....I don't remember it seems liek forever ago

                  I don't think I was that impressed.

I crowd-surfed for the first time at that gig. actually that's the only time I've done it, now I just find it annoying. god I'm getting old.

wasn't there fire and drumsticks? or am I confusing reality with my dreams again?!

                  chunty @shucks | 8 Mar '07, 15:28 | X
                  • I can't remember....

sounds a bit like Green Day = fire + drumsticks. hmmm....it does ring a vague bell though.

                    shucks @chunty | 8 Mar '07, 15:36 | X
    • Pop punk is for

CHUMPS. Yeah, you heard me right

      dove_from_above | 8 Mar '07, 11:33 | X

        • Best Pop Punk Albums

Mr T Experience - Our Bodies Our Selves
The Rezillos - Can't Stand The Rezillos
          The Descendents - Everything Sucks

Other pop punk bands I like include The Groovie Ghoulies, NOFX, The Queers and probably some others.

          johnny_goatboy @sophiacherryx | 8 Mar '07, 14:08 | X
          • I wouldn't class

NOFX as Pop Punk, although I kind of see where you're coming from.

But on the subject: NOFX - Punk in Drublic / Lagwagon - Trashed.

            Oh. Yes.

            chuckbarris @johnny_goatboy | 8 Mar '07, 14:54 | X
            • I'd say

NoFX were more skate punk. Ahhh Lagwagon! :D

              "Just another Satttuuurrrdaaayyyy!!!"

              shucks @chuckbarris | 8 Mar '07, 14:58 | X
              • Drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive...

The intro to 'Stokin the Neighbours' is just ridiculous. Joey Cape is a don (Y)
