New Bjork album - full details
"Musical innovator Björk releases her next studio album ‘Volta’ on May 7th 2007.
‘Volta’ is Björk's sixth studio album and follows the release of ‘Medúlla’ in 2004.
Featuring ten brand new and original tracks ‘Volta’ is entirely written and produced by Björk.
In the role of producer Björk has brought in various other musicians to work on her songs and ‘Volta’ features some of her most interesting collaborations so far with Antony Hegarty (Antony And The Johnsons) singing on two tracks, and Timbaland (Jay-Z, Missy Elliot etc) working with Björk on beats that she created for three further songs.
Other artists that feature on ‘Volta’ include electronic pioneer Mark Bell of LFO and two unique drummers – Chris Corsano (the improvisational drummer who has worked with Sonic Youth amongst others) and Brian Chippendale from Lightening Bolt.
Björk also brought in two acclaimed African artists for ‘Volta’ - Toumani Diabate, the Malian kora player and Konono No1 the experimental band from The Congo who won a BBC World Music Award in 2006. She has also put together her own 10 piece female brass section of Icelandic musicians who play on three further tracks. Meanwhile Chinese pipa expert Min Xiao-Fen plays on one song."
I've not been this excited about an album is years.
Brilliant.
I'm especially excited about the songs with Hegarty. They tie for the best voice in the world today.
This is good news
This is very good news.
chris corsano
:D:D:D:D:D
this does sound like its gonna be amaaaazing
the guest rota looks incredible and suggests it'll probably be a highly rhythmic experimental album. koolio..
i've just realised
how awesome this is actually going to be.
looks like being an incredible year for wonderful experimental soundscapey things.
:D
I am excited too!
I don't think there are that many artists that could get myself and the rest of the music listening public as excited as Björk.
But seeing as this is a thread about the lady I am not going to try and name any other acts. Seriously, that is one impressive spiel about how this album is going to pan out.
the konono #1 song...
..and lightning bolt songs will be nuts.
As i've said before
If any album which is not only by Bjork but also features Antony hegarty, Lightning Bolt, Konono No. 1, LFO, Chris Corsano AND a kora player is anything less than utterly spectacular i will be very, very surprised. And disappointed. And maybe even hurt.
Not A kora player
It's Toumani Diabate!!!
Listen to his Nouvelles Cordes Anciennes CD with Ballake Sissoko - stunning
Toumani Diabete
doesn't play kora?
He does
I think he's trying to say that he's the best kora player ever. He's definitely the best of the large number (ie two) that i've seen play!
I capitalised the 'A' for emphasis
i thought you just
really didn't want that job in Starbucks.
Bring.
It. On!!!
argh! this looks like it'll be fantastic.
i'm megaexcited.
my curiosity
is certainly piqued ...
May 7th feels a long way away :(
Does anyone else agree
That Bjork could make a fantastic Drum n Bass album?
I reckon so.
This should be insanely good news to me that
all these artists are recording together, but the Bjork bit just makes it 'meh' for me.
*spaffs*
I hope it's good. Medulla has shaken my unshakeable confidence in her a little.
I didn't like it when Antony guested on some other stuff.
And I didn't like the male voices on Medulla.
Antony is hardly like the malest vocalist in the world, but there's something inherently feminine that I like in Bjork's music and I don't like that being messed with really if that makes sense.
yeah i know what you mean actually
but the bjork/thom yorke duet was absolutely amazing, so it can be done!
True, true...
but that "zgzgzg there's a girl on the phone" moment on Bjork is the worst Bjork moment EVER.
*on Medulla
its swings and roundabouts
cos the robert wyatt contribution is sublime
i concur
