and i didn't go.
how did cursive go down with the FR fans ?
but by the end, most people had enjoyed it i think, some were cheering for more. though there were a few leavers after cursive, so they will have obviously contributed a bit more noise.
there goes the one zodiac gig that stood out when i looked...
and yes, i'd have gone for cursive. the ugly organ is such a genuinely brilliant album.
so good. I was less drunk for Cursive. FW were lame-ness, his voice was off. The bass was average and guitar wasn't up to much. Ok they have the gimmick of a female drummer but...does that make her good? Overall...I didn't rate them. Cursive on the other hand were AMAZING.
or were they worse than normal?
with them...but he needs too learn how to enunciate. They were well below par.
long did Cursive play for?
why the fuck is having a female drummer a 'gimmick'? seriously? that's sexist fucking bollocks.
Who do you think you are to criticise girls for being musicians? Just because ¡F,R! are equal opportunities employers.
I really have little idea why I said that.
until you've cried yourself tolerant.
and should stop listening to music if you believe that female drummers are 'gimmicks'. if i still lived in oxford i would come and slap you around the face.
but had too much work to do. I would have very much liked to have seen Cursive, but Forward Russia are hideously overrated and boring.
And there was no way they should ever have been on before ¡F,R! Who I'm still waiting to hear anything to make me think they will ever do anything more than a a good e.p's worth of decent enough material. singre man was very fun to watch, but there is only so much irratic jerking around you can take, I appreciated the guitarist, he writes some good licks and riffs, but it all ends up blending into one long wait for the few actual hooks that they do have.
Cursive though... truely brilliant. i <3 them
to go to the barfly show now :'(
and the one on monday
i think i've made the right choice, as much as i love eits i'm really looking forward to this and thats having only heard a few of their tracks
it's £10 for a ticket.
you're evil :'(
AGAIN why don't you?
what did cursive play? lots of ugly organ? happy hollow? older stuff??
but amoungst others i think they played Dorothy at forty, and Bad sects from Happy Hollow, gentleman caller, art is hard and some red handed sleight of hand from Ugly organ and the song from from burst and bloom that has burst and bloom repeated at some point in the song!
i love Dorothy, gentleman caller and art is hard :D
must be sink to the beat
starts slow, just a few picked notes and drum beat then about half way through 'let it BURST AND BLOOM AAARRRGH' etc
without a doubt their best album...
i only got into them about half a year back, so all their albums are blending into one at the mo
i fucking love that song
also did they play any of:
rise up!rise up!
flag and family
into the fold
dorothy dreams of tornadoes
butcher the song
(those are my favourites btw!)
Not heard alot of Cursive stuff, but I hear good things about them
Kubichek! and Sometree complete the line up
Should be a good night
Should be amazing. Undecided whether to stay for Forward Russia... I don't hate them. They just do absolutely nothing for me.
bought my ticket for the leeds gig the other day
gonna be sick
and also the cursive headline gig tomorrow
from domestica they usually play the martyr and meeting friends and aquaintances..and maybe one more that i can't remember
XD can't wait
people should stay for Forward Russia too, they're playing some new songs which may appeal to da haterz more.. who knows
if anything they were too long, but perhaps they are growers? i dunno.
And now I will discuss it, as cursive didnt play in glasgow.
Anyway, forward russia are great. Anyone who judges a gig on critical elements like how well a certain member played or something, is an idiot.
is correct. well done.
about forward russia is that they seemed to get grouped in with a load of shit NME bands for no apparent reason.
i think a lot of people would take them more seriously if this was not the case.
i find NME acclaim repelent. how silly of me.
It was really good. Good music was discussed, other bands we're discovered etc.
Then the album came out, NME bummed them even more than they did before (they put whiskas on the "cool list" before the album came out, and called him the "bassist". Wrong).
Since then, the board's been terrible. Lots of fanboys/girls who seem to only listen to forward russia. I mean, fair play, but every gig that happens is "OMG BEST GIG OF MY LIVE", and people put the little exclamation mark logo on everything, including fruit and cakes, then post pictures of it. Totally boring.
on the FR boards?
had over a thousand posts, good discourse, good people, interesting music. then THEY came. idiots, bandwagon jumpers, stupid retards playing "ironic" bad covers, pictures of apples with exclaimation marks (LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!) etc etc. can't stand that place nowadays. they put on a good show live though, but i'm not sure about the new songs from the youtube videos. i'll see next week i guess
...I mean I still post on there pretty frequently but the decent:twat ratio has definitely swung firmly into the twat side.
There was somebody on there not so long ago who was asking someone ":O omg like how did you meet them?" and the other guy was like "I stood for an hour after the gig in the rain and I got into the dressing room AND EVERYTHING".
Arrrrrgghhhh I'm sure some of the people are quite nice in real life but it's so difficult to have a stimulating chat about anything at all anymore :|
But back onto the subject anyway, Cursive is gonna be awesome. Still not too sure about Sometree though. Went to see them in Lancaster a year or so and thought they left a lot to be desired. I found their recorded stuff to be a lot better. But then this time they might be a lot better playing to a crowd that is larger than 10 people :S
but it's true. some people are so anti NME that virtually any band given significant coverage by them is automatically dismissed as indie-pop-whatever and subsequently not taken seriously.
cursive = interesting
iFR! = wonderful
last night at koko that is
cursive = great!
and kubichek = a bit meh, sometimes good
I saw them supporting le rumblestrips recently and aa chum o'mine remarked, " have you seen Editors?" I said that I had and of course the response came, "yeh, so have these guys..."
they were okay, i suppose... not up to cursive standard. Forward Russia must try hard to stop me leaving early to go to some recommended country music night in brighton on saturday... oh, yeh...
were awesome last night in Southampton! I bought their album off the back of their live performance, it's a lot more mellow than I expected but pretty nice still.
Cursive were, as expected, also amazing, it was a much better performance than the Barfly on Thursday I think, mainly because of the crowd, they seemed a lot more into it.
And FR were also pretty good. But I was quite tired by then.
