i be going to Koko, never seen him before and to be fair haven't really given his stuff much of a listen...
9 times, they seem to fall into three categories
1)nervous, he is near silent and shakes alot, bit boring
2) wrecked, actually really funny guy and goes for it on the emo bits
3)fucking wrecked car crash of a show
it was quite suited to the setting, open air, grand bulding, london summer late evening/night.
but i remember being rather unwhelmed. don't know why.
i hope it'll be a better gig with the more organic music of all of the other albums.
when there is abit in a song that I love, like a particular scream or weird vocal thing that he just rushes through or does differently
i remember this happening once or twice.
the two times I've seen him before have been two of the best gigs I've ever been to. I'm Wide Awake tour at the Wedgewood rooms was really nice and intimate, and he really went for it on such a small stage. And Digital Ash tour at Somerset House was just epic really. I'm going to Koko and Oxford, can't wait!
did you not think that The Faint far outshone Bright Eyes?
until that gig, and watching An Evening With Saddle Creek last night for the first time in ages, I decided I really should get in to them.
However, the answer to yr question is no. They were ace though.
and did first day of my life by himself my spine actually tingled and I dont even particularly like that song
whilst we all stared in aw, my stupid friend was crying his eyes out AT Todd from The Faint, who was just like 'whatever'.
needless to say he's not my friend anymore.
Probably the second best gig I've ever been to. Third, maybe?
the tour at the moment is very very heavy on new material, and very very light on old material.
so be prepared.
he has 2 or 3 great gigs to 1 shambolic one - when I saw him at Somerset House he was great though.
keep me fingers crossed then!
going to the oxford show could give me a floor to sleep on london or oxford, in exchange for drinks/undying gratitude
like 3 or 4 years ago. quite disappointing, seemed like he couldnt be bothered. hope this time is better.
with modest mouse?
my favourite were the two solo gigs before iwaim came out. though the digital ash gigs were great mainly 'cos of the excellent band he's got.
was that the time at shepherds bush when he tripped on a cable as he came on stage and he DID NOT appreciate everyone laughing at him...
yes, modest mouse were great that night... I should have bought that tour shirt...
...its all been downhill since then...
and yes, I am going to both the oxford and the london gigs... he's gotsta get better sometime, right?...
and scarlet mist is coming up blank...
does anyone have a spare ticket for koko? ive realised that i will be in oxford then (but not for the brookes gig) and want to gooooooo.
Good luck with that.
I'll go with Thingsthatfly's notion. He's hit or miss live, but always watchable.
on his own. Pretty fucking amazing. But they were both 'an evening with conor oberst' shows so it was just him and a guitar.
I haven't got any pics from that night. God bless Jim James.
i'm holding out for another boogaloo appearance hopefully, that would be ace.
that night was the best gig ever, possibly.
at boogaloo I almost died.
in wolverhampton on the IWAIM tour and it was pretty fantastic.
