I read something about this at the weekend. Has anyone seen it?
i don't know what this is.
I read about it in Vice but The Social Registry website doesn't appear to be working.
i don't have the new Vice yet... my guess is that the DVD isn't out yet though, because i'm sure i'd have heard something somewhere.
i absolutely love this band.
but I've not seen it anywhere so I assume it was delayed.
but yeah, i'd expect it's just been delayed.
which is a shame, as i want it now.
"On May 22 The Social Registry will be releasing Gang Gang Dance's Retina Riddim. This is a DVD + CD package contains a 30-minute experimental film made by band member, and noted visual artist, Brian DeGraw. It is by no means a tour film, documentary, live video, or anything else as remotely stringent, and pretty much defies description.
Tank Magazine has had this to say about it: "Retina Riddim is film's answer to gabba. Far from your standard tour documentary, the film sees DeGraw cutting and slicing through the band's archive of footage. Visions of vivid kaleidoscopic colors, butterflies and Day-Glo mushrooms are juxtaposed with more sinister images of Polynesian fire dancers and bug-eyed tribal sculptures shot in Hawaii. Interspersed throughout are scenes of the band members semi-obscured and dancing through green fields or spectral suunbeams." Not necessarily how we would describe it but a good attempt nonetheless.

For the accompanying CD Brian cut together fragments of Gang Gang Dance music, mostly drawn from sound-checks and live shows, into one whole. As an added bonus Retina Riddim also includes GGDbyOP, a fan film shot and edited on the road by a friend of the band's, and a beautiful fold out poster designed by Mr. Degraw.
We are unbelievably excited about this release, and you should be too."
