Primal Scream - Primal Scream

Overlooked gem.

Second best Scream album I'd say.

  • Maybe...

I was listening to Primal Scream last night (Xtrmntr) and got 2 other albums, it's sorta clear to me now that their music can be cool, but mainly they're just as good as their producers, Shields, Orb, Jah Wobble, etc,

    • Mani

I reckon Mani's playing is a big part of what makes Xtrmntr/Vanishing Point so great though...

      • Yeah

Fair point, I can't stand Gillespies voice though

        • Really?

Don't mind it myself. I've always had a soft spot for the boy Gillespie.

I have their demos from '83/'84 somewhere on tape, they're great, super-twee jangly pop music!

          • Some's ok

It's that in general sometimes I dislike them, I loved Xcellerate and Screamadelica but they're really lauded for Screamadelica and that's the sort of album that they abandoned the sound totally after last album and became stones rip off, I just can't stand some of his attitude, ie atglastonbury, when he releases crap like country girl, drops bomb pentagon as single and that a lot of best moments I like aren't dowen to band, few examples 'shoot speed kill light' mental production and Bernard Sumner on guitar, acellerates Sheilds distortion, they can make a good racket but they don't seem to have a soul or style
