Fingers crossed for the next album, eh?
they'll knock it on the head after this. I was pretty underwhelmed by the single, not heard the album yet, but it's clear they're gonna find it tough to cling to their fanbase post-major label. See: Hundred Reasons.
it just sounds so BLAND. The title pretty much sums up the song. I'm not a huge fan of Warnings/Promises but all the singles off that were loads better than this. I'm seeing them live in March and I just hope they don't play too much new stuff.
I am more than happy that they have returned to form, the last album was a blip on an otherwise pretty excellent discography. As for returning to the days of Captain, its never gonna happen. They aren't teenagers anymore, plus would you really want to see grown men try and re-create that anarchic quality, it would just be embaressing.
As for the Hundred Reasons comparison, there is one major difference, Idlewild are a much more established act, with a much larger fanbase. Hundred Reasons didn't have as much time to develop a hardcore following, where as Idlewild have been going for 10 years now.
No Emotion is pretty good. While it was my least favorite 'wild album, it is stupid and pointless for them to pretend that they never Warnings and go back to Captain. I'm glad that they have developed their sound and hopefully the album should be pretty good.
As for Hundred Reasons, I thought they still had a small fanbase.
I've heard the new album too, it's really good.
It annoys me that people are still wanting them to release albums that sound like Captain. That was one album ten years ago, get over it. If they did attempt it, it'd sound stupid, they're not that band anymore. Idlewild sound like Idlewild, they've got a great catalogue of songs off all their albums. When they release a new album I'm just happy that there are new Idlewild songs for me to listen to...
the first song off the new album, has probably broken into my top 10 Idlewild songs, so its not all bad this new album. Its growing on me. Its certainly not the horror-show trying to hard to be old Idlewild that I'd feared. But the pretty stuff so far doesn't grab me like a Bronze Medal or an El Capitan or a I'm Happy Just To Be Here Tonight.
So. Not the end of the world.
