Steely Dan
they've probably got a reputation as cheesy soft rock merchants, but that misses a lot of what they have to offer. so, any fans in the house? if so, what albums do you consider the best?
so far, i've got countdown to ecstacy and donald fagen's solo the nightfly, but dont know where to go next.
My dad likes them.
He has told me Pandy Fackler by Ween sounds like them. I also like The Mountain Goats version of FM. That is all I know.
you're winning so far
well done!
the only good thing about
Steely Dan is that fact that they take their name from a William Burroughs thing.
Trust me - I'm old enough to know these things
An incredible band
I do like Aja
Writing and performance taken to an amazing level but in a good way.
DO NOT disregard them in any way definately not soft rock.
Ricky Don't Lose That Number!
it's the only one you want.
You might need it if you feeeeeel bet-tah........
..........When you ge---t home.
I love Steely Dan. Countdown to Ecstasy is my clear favourite.
Steely dan rock
no denying it
showbizness kids
makin' movies of themselves
"YOU KNOW THEY DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT ANYBODY ELSE"
i love steely
ive got a 'gaucho' record of his that my old man taped for me, babylon sisters---shakeup! woo!
i save this record for when i need it, it always puts me in a good mood
the drumming on the track Aja
is totally immense.
i only own Aja and Can't Buy a Thrill.
Can't Buy a Thrill is full of awesome motown-esque melodies and harmonies, its a pretty amazing catchy rock album, although it does boarder on pure cheese at times.
Steely Dan
are briliant. All of their stuff is great. I second Soup 100's recommendation and get 'Pretzel Logic' next - my personal favourite. Seriously it's absolutely awesome, in particular side 2.
"He takes all my money....you know I'm throooough with buzz!'
Also 'Katy Lied', 'The Royal Scam' and 'Can't buy a Thrill' should be purchased.
They are an often overlooked and unjustly maligned band. They mixed rock, jazz, funk and (some) country in a wonderful idiosyncratic fashion and were absolute meticulous bastards in the studio.
