are opening for Incubus at the Zenith de Paris ( very big venue... )
What's happening ?
If you are asking why they are doing such a gig, I think playing such a large venue is good practice. Of all of the great young indie bands today, I think they have the most potential for mainstream success. There aren't a lot of bands "making it big" that are actually worthy of the attention, so I would be all for seeing the Duke Spirit succeed commercially. If any band deserves to be the "next NIRVANA," it is them. More power to 'em.
I've seen Duke Spirit twice live and only really enjoyed the parts where they tried to copy Barda Pond.
Other than that I find them pretty boring.
I wasn't aware that anyone was trying to copy Bardo Pond. But anyway, if you can appreciate Sleater-Kinney and the Pixies, I can't understand what about their songs would not appeal to you. I saw them play at Urban Outfitters (yes, that Urban Outfitters) at SXSW last year, and that was seriously one of the best gigs I've seen. I then traveled to Houston to see them again, and lo and behold, a bunch of people who had discovered them at the Austin shows had followed them to Houston as well. I hope for your sake the riffs find you...
Yhey are excellemt.
I sure can see the benefits they can hope to gain by playing such a big venue. It's more like why them ?
I'm sure hundreds of bands would love to do it and they're really unknown in France.
Btw, if their mini album was good, their first proper album was awfully produced and they were average when I saw them...
Yeah, they'd be a lot more exciting if every song they wrote was an inferior midtempo variation of one Creedence song. Oh wait, there already is a band that does that! The Magnolia Electric Co., whom you rate a 10! Boy, that was a show so exciting that I actually had to dig my nails into my arm to keep from falling asleep.
when people get so offended by someone disliking a band they like that they feel the need to insult someone's music taste.
Golly, gee whiz, I feel really bad about that comment now. Thank you for being so mature and showing me the error of my ways. Where would the internet be without such bastions of message board morality as yourself?
Oh, by the way, it's not a need. It's a want.
The comparisons between the Duke Spirit and Magnolia Electric Co are blindingly obvious, aren't they?
i can't tell.
Sorry but I've seen french band This is pop last night.
That was exciting...
Duke Spirit ?
No, sorry, boring !
how did they get such a gig ?
Good manager ?
New label ?
but dissing magnolia electric company is a low blow too far.
bad form :(
I didn't say anything really bad about them...
Including: Cuts Across The Land
Love is an unfamiliar name.
they're good live, and she's HOTT as anything
