Moon or Bonham
for the dead
Reni for the living
these aren't the technically "best" drummers of all time, but for their personal styles and influence on mine, these are my favourite five...
1 - Danney Goffey - Supergrass
2 - Jason Finn - The Presidents Of The United States Of America
3 - Jimmy Chamberlin - The Smashing Pumpkins
4 - Dave Grohl - Nirvana
5 - Brendan Canty - Fugazi
1. John Bonham
2. John Stanier
3. John (Chris) Corsano
4. Matt (John) Cameron
5. JD (John) (Todd) Trainer
He was ace.
brann dailor and john theodore (because I am a fan of widdly pointless fills and bombast)
dale crover (for his style and precision and the fact that he once wore a stripper style tracksuit with velcro down the side, ripped off for him to play in white y fronts)
the drummers from the buzzcocks and naked raygun (dont know names) - for sheer energy and driving-ness
WATTS.......WHAT A LEDGE
Josh Garza of Secret Machines. It really is.
a very good drummer. and singing drummers are always good (see China Drum).
one of those headset microphones. I think Phil does to be honest. It is no doubt quite a bit easier.
pisses all over that little suggestion
do they have a singing drummer? maybe it is only china drum where the singing drummer thing is good. im sure there are others though
from the muppets
shit what was the band called, something good...
the electric something?
the Electric Mayhem.
gets extra points for having the best name ever.
zigaboo modeliste is indeed the best name ever.
Bonham was hardcore, but Moon... well where other drummers in a given song would place accents based on what the bass or guitars were doing, Keith Moon liked to drum in time with the vocals. That's drummology.
As for me: I'm with Haake.
Dom Howard from Muse. Awesome. My favourite drummer around at the moment
I don't care what anybody says. That man is a fucking cyborg!!
best drummer i have ever seen.
just stupid good.
used to make me watch clips of Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. Pretty impressive but dull nonetheless.
I always liked Dave Rowntree. What?
I'm more of a Mitch Mitchell or Carmine Appice kinda guy.
And the answer is both of them
The guy from Secret Machines
Keith Moon, yeah.
My skylight is covered in snow.
believe I'm going to be the first person to mention:
Danny Carey -Tool
Dave Lombardo - Slay
and matey from led zep ;)
Also honorable mention to Stewart Copeland
Josh Garza. I love him.
neil peart yet? I'm surprised. even though he clearly isn't the best drummer
MIKE FUCKING PORTNOY!!!
They're all jazz drummers though. So i'd probably add Brian Chippendale, the guy from Deerhoof and Charles Hayward too.
i am stupid.
the guy from Mouthus
this has never been done before.
THERE IS NO BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD!!!!!!
but my faves are Danny Carey (tool), Tomas Haake (meshuggah), Dan Foord (sikth)
and John Densmore from the Doors
DO A PRETTY MEAN SINGING DRUMMER
my thread was who the best, bonham or moon
Rather than just repeat what others have said, I'll add Utrillo Kushner from Comets on Fire to the list. He is really versatile and his album as Colossal Yes album is incredible. Plus, he is the nicest guy in the world and wears awesome shirts.
Chris Kontos from Machine Head's debut album
Here's the fat shit:
But he is absolutely amazing.
Bronwen Stone of Blammo
Joe Dilworth of Th' Faith Healers
Matthew Fletcher of Heavenly
to anything else.
Indie bands tend to be shit with the drum kit.
Lars Urlich, what a cunt but what a drummer
Hetfield used to spit on him every time he slowed down.
Dale Crover and Chris Corsano are where it's at. And Greg Saunier. And the Comets on Fire guy, yes. And Scout Niblett. And the guy from Silver Apples.
This is true...I don't really 'do' metal, but most indie bands are influenced by full on boring metronome stuff
just missed out on my top 5
His performance on the new Isis is stunning
Jaki Liebezeit and Brendan Canty. And all the drummers that look like me.
from Ikara Colt.
but he used to play too fast so the rest of the band couldn't keep up!
they recruited the new bassist.
but the drummer from dresden dolls is fucking amazing!
I can't believe I've let this entire thread pass without posting this vanilla fudge clip!
is my favourite. he's so expressive and it fits the music perfectly.
Watch the clip, retract- or: Post a similarly impressive clip of the national drummer
this is NOT ironic. i actually think he is
That's not even slightly funny
best drummer ever- No
still playing today. His free jazz playing is face melting in its intensity, the noise bands he plays with are consistantly incredible, and his solo drum shows are simply with out parallel. The way he approachs the drums is totally unique, witness:
Best live performance I saw last year.
And he astounded and delighted every time.
and I didn't understand it then. Ringo Starr??
Manu Katche or John Bonham for me.
Jimmy chamberlin - smashing pumpkins
Richie Mills - Cable
Janet Weiss, Dave Grohl, Josh Garza
Bonham, Grohl and Starr.
corsano close second
Actually that guy from Tool was pretty good as well.
And Steve Reid.
Joe from Silversun Pickups
Jason Trail of Dead
the guy from Melt Banana
...you're all way too cool to mention Travis Barker. So allow me.
Shame about the bands he drums for though :/
Who is the Helmet/Battles drummer? someone said he looks like billy joel
Why have none of you mentioned me?
Curse you all.
Zach Hill and Brann Dailor have been mentioned.
The guy from Dredg is unbelievable to watch, he's like a robot! The band dismantle the kit around him at the end of the set.
And Lars Ulrich is good but Hetfield is better. They used to have drum battles on stage but had to stop 'cos Hetfield would smoke Ulrich nightly.
hes really good.
(BTW Lars u. is a horrid drummer))
The best drummers, in my opinion, are:
Tre Cool (natch!)
Joey Jordison (awesome and versatile)
Ben Johnston (the most techincal 'mainstream' drummer atm - check out 'Blackened Sky')
Virgil Donati (the man is an mechanical octopus)
Chad Smith (check his groove out!)
Keith Moon (Legend)
Mitch Mitchell (giving Jimi's noodling a point, hehe)
And his brother 707
