Youre favourite ones?
And please no one say "guitar solos are shit, i only listen to music with gameboy noises".
apart from that, i only like gameboy noises
that just steam through all the riffs
Yes. Sometimes they're tuneful, like in Straws Pulled At Random, and sometimes they're insane, atonal Allen Holdsworth affairs like on I. Either way, it's all good.
I am partial to One by Metallica, Gimme The Prize by uh, Queen and... I can't think of anything else right now. They'll do.
there are some dimebag ones i love too, but i can't remember which ones. and most jonny greenwood ones i like. and when omar plays silly riffs, they are kinda solos
The crazy computer bit in Cerpin Taxt counts as a solo. That's awesome.
Just where it goes into the loud bit.
Jonny's solo from The Trickster, by Radiohead, for introducing me to polyrhythms.
even when I'm enjoying them. But the one at the end of "Infinite Spark" by Pavement is genuinely really moving. I'm not sure how. Also, "You're So Great" by Blur. It's always the sloppyish indie solos that really push my buttons.
with the 'you're so great' - i'd add 'this is a low' to that
also the solo to the bluetones b-side 'colorado beetle' is outstanding if anyone else has heard it...?
Because it has 2!
Also, One. How can anyone move their fingers that fast!
The one in a joy division song that i cant remember the name of. It sounds really akward but great.
Another Girl Another Planet / No peace for the wicked
Pavement - The Hexx
I hate solo on November Rain, to clean, try last two minutes of locomotive of use your illusion, oh so strange... loads more can't remember bit tired
Loads of Jimi Hendrix stuff mega-obviously - maybe the massive psychedelic break in the middle of 1983
Yo La Tengo - Cherry Chapstick and the one note solo in ... hmm. which songs is that in? one note solos rule.
Joy Division - Shadowplay.
from jimi's watchtower
and the intro solo from 'like a hurricane'
the Cherub Rock guitar solo. RHCP - I Could Have Lied is another good one.
Worst Guitar Solo = Black Hole Sun. Just horrible.
You're So Great
Now THATS a fooking solo.
Agreed on Locamotive, the solo at end of Novemeber Rain too.
Quite a lot of solo's by J. Mascis.
we are the pigs by suede
just everything, really. Mick Barr = hott licks
Pixies - 'hey'
Cave in - 'big riff'
The strokes - 'the modern age'
Weezer - 'tired of sex'
Strawberry Letter 23- Shuggie Otis
XYU end bit, it's just naaasty
oh does com? by mono count?
because it's created by vinyl scratching, but the solo in "Pneumonia" by Fog is absolutely brilliant.
played by Robert Fripp in 'St Elmos Fire' by Brian Eno. In fact, almost any solo by Robert Fripp is ace.
We Will Rock You-Queen
Wuthering Heights-Kate Bush
Brand New Cadillac-The Clash
When I Go Deaf-Low
I Don't Want It-Ween
anything involving Doug Martsch too. I really can't wait for May 19th.
I'm deadly serious.
1) Funkadelic - Maggot Brain. Number 1 by a country mile.
2) Any Dinosaur jr.
3) Any Built to Spill
4) Freebird (very silly)
5) Another Girl Another Planet.
Aaaaaand that's it.
the Top Gun Theme Tune by Harold Faltemeyer :p :p :p
by dinosaur jr
Feel The Pain has a good one too I think.
the greatest one note guitar solo ever.
pavement - rattled by the rush
iron maiden - number of the beast
nirvana - serve the servants
smashing pumpkins - geek u.s.a.
ride - leave them all behind
But at the same time, I think 'gameboy noises' are fucking pathetic.
Solos are good for about four bars. In rock n roll, like Chuck Berry or early Beatles, its fine.
Post 1970 = :(
Smashing Pumpkins get away with it, because I see it as a bit tongue in cheek. They aren't doing it with the same stinking arrogance of Brian May and that twat from Guns and Roses.
to more Built To Spill.
It was ok. But I got bored of it a bit fast.
His accent's a bit too American.
no thread on solos is complete without built to spill
had a certain fondness for solo in Elemental Child by Tyrannosaurus Rex.
I only listen to music with game boy noises
God is in the Radio - QOTSA, sends a chill down my spine.
The end of skies of Millenium Night - Sikth (does that count as a guitar solo?)
And of course, November Rain.
Rikki don't lose that number...
Steely Dan - Reeling in the Years (I think it's called) That one is awesome.
Also, Purple Haze. duh.
very short. very, very messy
Number 2: Red House by Shudder to Think
awkward but lovely
Number 3: Sweet ChiLOLd of Mine
so funny and memorable
also basically every weezer song
Weezer solos are great. Especially Tired Of Sex. Another really good one that fits in with the song can be found during 'Wrong Time Capsule' by Deerhoof.
Also there's this song called 'Black Sky' by Mainliner (feat. the Acid Mothers Temple guy) which starts out with cheesy noodling then goes FWSHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! and it sounds like he's splitting the sky open. Yeah!
that is. Not the song.
that LP is one of the greatest exhibits of rock music ever, and i fucking mean it.
I quite like
Hearts Alive - Mastodon
Shudder To Think. Red House is awesome, as is the solo
ive tried so many times
and its so simple
deceptive so it is
Oasis - Some Might Say. There. I said it.
man who sold the world- nivana
sweet child of mine- guns and roses
she bags the drums- stone roses
if i remember correctly it just follows the vocal melody, but just amazing.
Wilco - Hell Is Chrome and lots of other songs off A Ghost Is Born
Modest Mouse - Trailer Trash
