get there early, support band are a treat
I'm going to the Wolves gig on Sunday and can't wait.
I will check em out.
if he does the audience participation on Army, you are in for one of the best live music treats ever!
...i want to do the trumpet section
is even better.
a few thousand people in a room all harmonising in tune is a beautiful thing!
Wow i didn't know Clem Snide are supporting! i'm EXCITED :D
What should i expect?
last year at the Apollo Ben Folds support was Eef, the lead singer of Clem Snide. So if you were there it will be like him, but louder. If not, expect some amazing love songs, performed in an alt - lounge stylee, with a heavy dose of Jewish angst.
expect some lovely dreamy americana. Great storytelling (& funny) lyrics.
"looks at clock"
I really liked Clem Snide.
surprised that he was billed as Clem Snide... as that is the band name. They are very different proposition really. Eef Barzelay has a great solo album called Bitter Honey, and there is a live cd available which is similar to teh stuff he played last night. The last track is really funny... basically encourages the crowd to leave the venue, go home, put on some Clem Snide, slip into a Clem Snide t-shirt and knock one out!
I left after Underground, so missed the encore if there was one...
Yea he played one angry dwarf
I'm going to hunt out that clem snide cd. I really liked it.
the cover of "Beautiful" is on a tour e.p.which is a great starting point.
Ben Folds is in session on BBC6 in a mo.
I have just purchased bitter honey. I was just feeling crazy. I will let you know what i think.
but then a Ben Folds show never disappoints. I kept expecting the rest of Clem Snide to join Eef too, but alas it was just him solo. That cover of 'Beautiful' was great.
Loved the addition of the new toy (red synthesiser) to the sound. Interesting that his 'solo bits' were shorter than previous gig and so good to hear the full band version of Underground again :)
Alas no Not The Same, but the crowd knew the drill to Army so well he hardly needed to explain the audience participation. Following this up with Such Great Heights and Kate was Brilliant! (since there's probably no chance to hear The Postal Service do it this is the best live version one could hear!!)
A rough tracklist for those who care:
well, 'Free Bird'!
All you can eat
Learn to live...
Still Fighting it
You to thank
Bitches ain’t shit
The last polka
The Ascent of Stan
Such Great Height
Zak & Sara
One angry dwarf…
p.s. Jamie Cullum was seated at the front row just a bit in front of me (cue jokes about how he could learn a bit from the piano-master or something)
This makes you my Elvis till about lunchtime
i was your elvis?
this makes me cheap dosn't it?
to Wolverhampton on Sunday, Ben Folds live is always a fucking treat
That has to be the most geius song of the last century,
Kiss my ass kiss my ass goodbye now!
that would be genius
GMTV this morning. Miming and everything.
The 'interviewer' clearly had no idea what to say about him. It was most comical.
Off to Manchester on Saturday - hurrah!
