Was ok i guess...
in the end.
so i convinced my friend to sell her ticket and come to oxford on friday.
and then we went to a swedish indie night and watched two sultry looking swedish girls play filthy electropop.
it was fun.
as a SIDE NOTE: i was stood with two other guys that didn't have tickets, and one of them pointed at someone in the queue and said that said queue person had served them at chalk. i thought of you. i would guess now it was you.
Although i was with someone from work. So it could have been her i guess who served your friend. But either way...Help She Can't Swim were terrible and Blood Brothers werent as good as i remember to be honest. So you didn't miss out on much...
i've not seen them before, so they will be awesome right?
I had a lot distracting me so might have been that....
sorry you didn't get to enjoy it more.
I'm a bit concerned for my brother who ismeant to be coming too, he has just come down with bad tonsilitus, and he has but 3 days to get better
not a patch on when they played ATP last year. Maybe they were still suffering a bit. Also, they didn't seem to play for very long, I wouldn't have mind some more older stuff.
Played a couple of the more obvious ones off of Burn Piano Island and stuff.
it was a fun show, but i'd agree not top form for them. you could definately see/hear the illness that caused yesterday's cancellation. the dude was trying though, and i'm sure they'll come round again.
because when I saw them then they OWNED my FACE. Although I spent a lot of last night wondering whether that was just because I was at a perfect drunk/excitable pitch because it was Yay Tee Pee
I had a great time though. It definitely got better as they went on - just a shame they hit top form with the last song, really.
but it improved as it went on. not up with the underworld show I saw previously but good nonetheless
I went in with low expectations of HSCS but was pleasantly surprised so take that how you will
i'm still not into the venue though
Basically this statement is exactly what I would have put.
i think i'd rather see them in a smaller venue but having said that i quite enjoyed it having never seen them before, but it was quite a short set.
i enjoyed hscs but not as much as previous times i've seen them, lots of new stuff which didn't really grab me much.
a) islington academy is basically a school hall with a bar and a stage.
b) hscs are just fugging boring. what happened with them?!
BB were pretty much on form, I think the sound of the venue let things down overall, however, they did play Ambulence, Giant Swan, Trash and Celia, so yeah, major pointage there.
The "pit" (lol) was on fire, everyone was actually dancing like I'd imagine them to and there were no scene posey cunts. Everyone looked out for everyone and we all had a jolly good time. Roll on Oxford which will be a billion times better.
looked rather lame, but then i wasnt that near it to tell
I just hope there's a massive dance off! Handclaps at dawn!
at how bad Help She Can't swim were in Glasgow, after having seen them twice last year and them being AMAZING.
I really enjoyed Blood Brothers, although i wish i knew Young Machetes better. There was lots of dancing, and i really got into it towards the end of the set. All the stuff from BPIB/Crimes was great fun, and the crowd were pretty up for it. Good gig, all in all.
I'm not looking forward to seeing HSCS, they used to be awesome. What's going on?
i'm avoiding them live lest i actually heckle.
Only the first album, which was great at least.
They were pretty good the last time I saw them, that was February or something though.
but i don't have much of a barometer to compare them to
they were crap that night.
They were great though, blobbyporge.
they were great, in comparison to that other shouty band.
general song choices = yay
help she can't swim were awful, i'd never heard them before. that girl was really annoying.
I know it blows not seeing one of the best alt. bands in the world throwing it down 'quite right', but they'll be back. Hopefully at peak form!
In HSCS? That keyboard guy had the same stylist as lil' chris.
You're right about Lil Chris though, I knew the keyboard player reminded me of someone
the singer is like, a girl.
Thought it was a slightly bloated bloke with small bitch tits...I wasn't that close obviously...
you were joking!
a guitarist hasn't helped.
i have seen them on a number of occasion and have always despised them live, however i really like all of their records.
would have been interesting to see them as a four piece (?) at the gig, but i was rather happy drinking wine and watching the blood brothers.
But then again, I came all the way from Brighton to see them, it was my first time, and they are my current musical infatuation (I am also undergoing an REM and Beatles phase, so I'm sort of "mellowing out").
They could have played a bit longer, yes, but the energy was astonishing, the music was fantastic and the crowd loved it. It was one of the best gigs I've been to.
Some of the haircuts around me did remind me of the sort of "Bring Me The Horizon" fashion parade, which was a bit annoying, (I met someone who completely agreed) and they'll mosh to anything but honestly, I have never enjoyed such an energetic and unique band so much before.
I couldn't help grinning and thinking of you
I have never sang (read: screamed) along to a song so much at a gig before when they played that. It's my fave.
it was slowed down, sped up then fucked up
they sounded like a blood brothers tribute band that realised how inimitable blood brothers are/were
I thought it was immense because they made it unpredictable. They didn't fuck it up that much.
I thought they were pretty amazing last night. Not as good as the LA show but then, I didn't have a body for a whisky and jetlag last night, which may have led LA to being better.
are living up to my anticipations, they are a truly awful band and the five times I've had the misfortune to see them they have been bloody awful and half the band stand around like they can't be bothered, judging from these reports they sound 'on form' to me...
I got there to find out I had an AAA pass, so I could have sold my ticket. Bah! But yes, watching from the side of the stage was ace.
The Help She Can't Swim new stuff was at least better than the EP
They were supposed to be playing 'Lift the Veil, Kiss the Tank' but cancelled it at the last minute because of Johnny's vocals, but didn't replace it. Giant Swan was immense, but it seemed to me like most people only knew stuff off Crimes.
Oh, I was the guy at the front in the middle going mental and screaming for Fucking's Greatest Hit
I was kinda expecting "was amazing" style threads that'd make me regret not going even more.
are officially the most inconsistent live band of their ilk.
ive only seen them once, and tehy were fucking incredible.
everyone else says that every other time theyve been King Wack.
Jordan dedicated a song to me at the end... I missed it, as was pissing... did anyone hear?
If so: *chuffed*
Giant Swan was epic, that made my night, fantastic song. The general atmosphere in the pit was great as well. Said hi to Murder, darkpigeon and crablin.
Find me and say hi
