tortured genius or waste of space?
The best voice in grunge.
In fact he was in the best grunge band too.
Yeah he had problems, but that was grunge...
DiS' Resident Grunge Editor (not me) reckons Alice in Chains are not the best grunge band ever.
I don't know who DiS RGE is but they probably think it's Nirvana.
They're wrong. To the power of rock.
because jerry cantrell wrote an awful lot of the lyrics and most of the music. but brilliant, and an absolutely stunning voice. alice fans that haven't heard it should check out the Mad Season album
So, while we're talking grunge, are there any Stone Temple Pilots fans around?
but they never produced a truly classic record. the closest they came was purple but even that is flawed.
the greatest hits more than a studio album like.
boxset, despite containing tons of easy to find stuff (including most of dirt), is well worth getting if you havent got it and can find it cheapish. lots of early demos and live tracks, demos from the first two records, bsides, unreleased songs and the last 2 they recorded before the end. nice booklet too.
albums are fantastic!
Interstate Love Song.
Jamie is right in that they never truly achieved a 'great' record, only good ones...
i take it your talking about the self titled album with a purple cover....not great.
If you cant see DIRT as a classic then you need to buy some cotton buds and have a good ole clean out
i was talking about stp.
A great record, was lucky enough to get hold of it when it was released, love the fact it was named after a trip to england during the months of oct/nov when Layne came across a load of people on mushrooms who described it as the mad season.
Back to Layne,i think the creative force of cantrell and Stayley is equal, wether your talking lyrics or music, those vocal harmonies on sap and JOF are truly amazing, and there aint a bad track on dirt.
I saw Jerry on the boggy depot tour at the mean fiddler ,it was great but without Layne it all sounded very average
on the degradation trip tour at the same venue, by which time the guitarist was the guy who is now the singer when alice play live, so the vocals sounded completely like the records. fantastic night.
Is the guy who has taken laynes spot a soundalike????or have they released some new material
they're going to record anything under the name alice in chains. they did some touring in the last year, and yes he sounds an awful lot like layne but not in an annoying way. works very well.
for some stupid reason i forgot all about their astoria show until 2 days after when i saw the review in kerrang :-(
is in the band as well apparently.
