Really really really good.
COMPLETELY. after that its patchy at best.
He has been consistently good all through his career.
even when he made clarence play a fucking TAMBOURINE for practically a WHOLE ALBUM?
those Born In The USA era videos?
Human Touch? Lucky Town? The Rising?
poop in comparison to his early glories.
is a fucking AWESOME album.
Human Touch and Lucky Town are definitely below his usual standard but they do have some good songs on them.
I view them through the troubles he was having at the time...
in the way that some people say that the holocaust was just hitler having a bad patch!
songs on them.
and midpaced (human and lucky) that they almost make me cry
but Lucky Town is underrated.
the rising is a fantastic album.
i love it
a few years ago.
i wish i could've gone :'(
yeh. the live at hammersmith dvd that came with the born to run anniversary boxset is the best live dvd i've ever seen, and the cd version is equally great.
Devils and Dust?
but so derivative of guthrie/seeger/dylan that i get a little bored after a while.
absolutely love it.
Definitely in my top 5 Springsteen.
I quite possibly prefer Later springsteen (post Born in The USA)
I love the melancholy and wisdom he has now.
but it is interesting because i thought the general consensus was that it was another attempt to recapture the magic of nebraska (like tom joad) that didn't work that well. maybe i'll give it another spin tomorrow
Possibly my favorite Springsteen song (between this Atlantic City and Darkness on The Edge of Town)
before trotting off to town again to do more charity shop record buying (before indieandy and thommo get any funny ideas)
What a fuckign album.
we were born to ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun
by Lou Reed (complete with Born to Run quote) is fantastic.
Darkness On The Edge Of Town is my favourite of his albums. Basically anything of his between 1975 and 1984 is genius.
though I have to be boring and say I love Born to Run the most (Jungleland being one of the most glorious closing tracks ever).
Nebraska is particularly excellent too
And, surprisingly, I actually rather like Born in the USA. "Dancing in the Dark" is awesome :-P
that he made the e street band sound so shit, and that the videos are so awful. and that he uses so much synth in a bad way (cos i like synths!). most of the songs are okaaaay, and i love I'm On Fire and actually like the title track. i totally dislike gash like My Hometown and Glory Days, which are so cynically written to appeal to his expected fanbase. the video for Glory Days is also vomit inducing.
one of my least favourite videos ever.
he made the greatest saxophonist in a rock band ever hit a cowbell with a fucking drumstick.
he is the reason
