do you feel that the indie clubs you visit now are so over packed its not fun anymore?, indie has become too mainstream.
do you live? If it's in London, my advice is go out in South London and avoid places like Koko, Barfly and Metro like the plague.
I assumed he was, like, 14 or something...
hence my humouring him, I mean.
FUCKING ARSE WANK!
This is exactly why in a couple of years, this countries charts will be fucking boy band land again, cos people can't just listen to music without wanting to feel 'special' or 'different'
Whats the matter? Don't you feel cool and different enough now indie is 'hip'? You'd better think about how you can attract attention to yourself in a different way- digging boybands maybe? Grow a mohican?
There is a guy who works in my place (spotty little urchin who is temping)...and I walked in this morning and told him I downloaded Z, by my morning jacket last night. he just sighes and grunted and muttered something about how he heard them years ago. Like i give a fuck...I also heard he told someone that i he was suprised im knew some of the bands he did as 'I dont come accross like someone who knows much about music. He said i dont dress like I like music'
why is this because I havent got drainpipe jeans on with a spiked different coloured hairdo and eyeliner. I hate these freaks!
the whole too many people like what i like this is terrible thing is bullshit. i want EVERYONE to like what i like. i think what i like is some of, if not *the*, best stuff around at the moment and that people who aren't into it are missing out.
obviously theres some great stuff i haven't heard yet, and i would love to hear that too.
and after i've been converted by it's outstanding quality then i'll try and spread the word to people i know about that too.
but when things get more popular you do get more bands jumping on the band wagon and producing derivative shit.
that i do quite enjoy the feeling of exclusivity.
are quite similar to the waning days of Britpop. Lots of untalented opportunists such as the Kooks and Editors cluttering up the charts, yet bands such as the Maccabees, Duels and the Paddingtons not anywhere near as successful as they might have done if they'd appeared even a year and a half ago. People are fed up with standard post punk/indie schlop and thus jump at acts doing even vaguely different things, such as the Klaxons. The release of sophomore efforts from bands like Bloc Party and Kaisers should be the death knell.
you weren't implying that the paddingtons are a good band then what you say is A OK.
Two great bands, that paved the way for decent bands like the Arctic Monkeys, that paved the way for SHITE like the Fratellis.
Seriously, the Fratellis symbolise what is wrong with mainstream indie music at the moment....along with Razorlight's new stuff.
i hate the fratellis so darn much. words cannot describe.
I've just moved to london and still yet to find a good club... just went to the Frog this weekend and would be happy to never go there again... but having a hard time finding a good indie night that doesn't just play NME shite and also looking for a good Electroclash night...
and not just 'cause I'm playing there...
