  • its on 48 hours

    as 'like the twilight (memphis)'.

its also known just as 'memphis' sometimes. hes played it live a lot too, so its on a lot of bootlegs.

its one of my favourites too. you should get 48 hours and the suicide handbook. even if you make no other forays into the world of unreleased ryan, you should definitely get those, because theyre two of his best albums, without a doubt.

also, if you like this song, you should also check out 'my love for you is real', if you havent already. its really good too.

    • this is definitely a different take

to the one on 48 hours too. he sings a few lines with slightly different emphasis for one. im kinda intrigued now as to where its from, cos it doesnt really sound live either...

but yeah, thats where the song is most notably from.

      • How come I've never seen 48 Hours??

        Unreleased, you say?

How do I get hold of it?

        wrightylew @Heliotrope | 3 Jan '07, 12:16 | X
        • it's one of the unreleased

sessions floating around online. there are quite a lot.

there used to be an FTP that had it all on, but it got taken down when the legal troubles over Jacksonville City Nights started.

i'm sure someone will ysi it for you though. i'd do it, but i'm intending to not use the internet at home until after i move...

          • check alt-country.org

            • Now the .org has gone...

          • OK.

            Thanks Mr Gtrip.

          • i did some uploading.

            pm me if you want.

  • Thanks a lot, Heliotrope for the send.

The whole record sounds like the most country I've ever heard him be. Its just like Mr Parsons.

Although 'Like The Twilight' is absolutely lovely, and possibly my new favourite Ryan song, the rest of it isn't really my cuppa.

I think I prefer him being 'more indie' than 'more country' (ie. Love Is Hell and 29 over Jacksonville City Nights and Cold roses). Be I alone in this view?

    wrightylew | 3 Jan '07, 23:35 | X
    • maybe

does 48 Hours have Karina on it? that's probably my favourite ryan song ever ever ever.

      guntrip @wrightylew | 3 Jan '07, 23:36 | X
      • Jah.

        I liked Born Yesterday.

And I'm a dick, because I haven't listened to the second half of the record yet, so I can't pass much comment.

        wrightylew @guntrip | 3 Jan '07, 23:40 | X
      • Karina.

Its pretty good, but I've heard him be better in my eyes. Or ears.

Love Is Hell is as close to perfection he's ever got for me. I hope I never ever get bored of it.

      • but doesnt

him talking about hoxton square annoy you a bit?

        Jamie_Summers @guntrip | 4 Jan '07, 07:50 | X
        • no

it's like a wistful stroll through london on a sunny afternoon.

although it's funny watching americans try and work out what that word is.

          observe: http://www.answeringbell.com/Answering%20Bell/Songs/karina.htm

despite getting it right the first time, the second one is down as "hougston" square. buh?

          guntrip @Jamie_Summers | 4 Jan '07, 09:28 | X
    • I prefer

the country side of him more.

      But I love it all.

      fullerov @wrightylew | 4 Jan '07, 00:02 | X
  • Oh no.

    Marlvrum | 3 Jan '07, 23:40 | X
    • The Suicide Handbook

      is my favourite.

Early 2000 to December 2001 was the best time for Ryan.
