average bands vs shit bands

Brooner [Edit] [Delete] 17 replies 10:02, 20 December '06

is it wrong to hate bands who are distinctly average more than bands who are just plain shite?

if bands are shit i tend to ignore them, unless they're ridiculously hyped in which case it annoys me somewhat. but last night i really couldn't stand the earnest MOR rubbish of
http://www.myspace.com/leyatheband
who supported andy yorke, i don't really know why but it offended me more than if they were shit but they were just so horribly average in a we-want-to-make-stadium-rock-in-a-u2&snowpatrol-fashion
way.

painful stuff

      • it goes

excellent, really really shit, good, shit, average
        i think

        • sounds somewhat right

can you give an example of a really really shit > good band?

          • phil collins > good books

  • The problem is

that while shit bands can be easily identified and ignored, bloody mundane average bands tend to clog the place up and get more attention than they deserve.

And it does make me mad when bands happily settle for being derivative and tedious.

    • DERIVATIVE

thats the word that i was grasping for.

  • average bands are horrible

    who wants to be average?

this makes me think of the replacements. when they first played CBGBs, they decided that although couldn't be the best band who ever played there, they could certainly be the worst. so they played a set of feedback and sloppy covers.

    :D

    • True

If the Replacements weren't so utterly awful and careless to the point of career suicide they'd have been average.

  • i can avoid shit bands

but average ones get everywhere and are far more hard to avoid and so more depressing and worster.

    Jamie_Summers | 20 Dec '06, 11:54 | X
    • yes!

because shit bands are known for being shit you can avoid them, but you never really notice/no one ever says anything, about bands being average

      Brooner @Jamie_Summers | 20 Dec '06, 11:57 | X
  • what ARE you people

talking about? how can a average band be worse than a shit one. average bands are at least tolerable, shit bands aren't even that.

how could it actually ever be the other way around?

    • badness

inspires passion and love for what is not bad

      averageness inspires apathy and boredom.

      Jamie_Summers @bobj | 20 Dec '06, 14:05 | X
  • That stuff is the worst!

    The Kooks! etc! So boring!

Now 50 Cent - there's a piece of shit you can enjoy. "Clickety clank, clickety clank, money goes into my pig-gy bank"
