certainly a lot better than NME/Uncut/Mojo/Q/Rolling Stone/Spin, pretty much any music magazine
excited to see Knife at #1 and grizzly bear in top 10
someday they will catch on more in the UK
until then, you will have the kooks
the Hold Steady are sosososo bad
it's like the whole rappers and phil collins thing
They are really bad.
I'm surprised to see that so high.
Apart from that it's a good top 10 actually.
The 'guest' list thing is always more interesting though, I like those.

...
I like Fat Bobby's best
yeah
i always like reading those.
charalambides' list is tops.
i always get the feeling that pitchfork lists are designed to give them that bit of 'internet cool', because they're always full of the bloggers' choices and a lot of the lesser hyped records they gave good reviews to are conspicuously absent. most of these are fairly big releases, and yet there's no sign of say, that Charalambides record. is that really worse than the Pipettes?
i just cant stand the guys voice.
agreed
hold steady are the worst thing about that top 10
TERRIBLE
yeah
how come grizzly bear haven't been reviewed on here yet? surely a top 10 album in all good lists. cant believe they missed off subtle though, my fav of 06
i once
started a thread about them not reviewing it and they wrote me and said they never received it in the mail
:\
highly unlikely
Really surprised to see The Knife at numer one...
But happy with the list, mostly.
...
I own five of those, and have downloads of four more. It doesn't really excite me, its exactly what I would expect from Pitchfork
Fujiya & Miyagi
Seen the name pop up on a few lists. Any they any good then?
it's a good record
but the lyrics put me off, they're awful.
i love the hold steady album though, so my opinion might be invalid :(
great to see the thermals so high, that's a real result!
this^
The DiSers Top 50 will be best
Although the top 10 will be remarkably similar to Pitchfork's (minus Ghostface Killa, natch).
m. ward
is snoozeville
I think this is my favorite
Rocksounds list was really good as well.
What?
Transfiguration of Vincent is ace, as is Post War. Easily one of the best singer-songwriters of the decade
I'm really not impressed
by that list !
wait..
where the hell is beirut?
i mean, seriously!
i was thinking that
Lebanon?
ho ho
Last year's top 50 was far more recognisable (to me) if I remember rightly. I'm really suprised that Pheonix's album is in the list at all, nevermind number 13.
well
well, here in the states this is fairly representative
beirut/midlake got a lot of blog love
and while beirut managed to really traslate that into record sales/sold out shows
midlake however didn't
that said, both albums just aren't solid through and through
they each have a handfull of great tracks
but on a whole just don't cut it
then again I hate the hold steady and think joanna is gargabe so what do I know
Really tried to get into 'Ships'
but couldn't do it.
I'm just happy
that someone else sees the beauty in the new Thermals record. ACES.
the hold steady
album is fantastic, way better than their previous albums.
give it a serious listen, his voice is a lot better this time and the tunes are fantastic.
good to see Peter, bjorn & John, band of Horses and Destroyer in there....no Howe Gelb there, still love that album 6 months on
Well his voice put me off so much on the previous album
it just completely ruined it. Is his voice ACTUALLY listenable this time?
a lot more
listenable, he even sings some songs.
the big difference is a lot more backing vocals.
If you love the Boss & E street band you will love the new album!
A bit odd...
That they somehow managed to ignore almost evey other hip-hop record this year, yet Fishscale rides so high on its lonesome...no Roots, Mr Lif, Jel or Darc Mind, non monsieurs?
Well, they have writers who specialise in hip-hop
and you can read their lists in the individual lists here:
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/40124/Staff_List_2006_Individual_Albums_Lists
I guess Fishcale and Clipse were the only hip-hop albums that managed to cross-over into other writers lists.
Not one British act in the top-25
Does that indicate it was a bad year for British music?
No.
But i'm a bit busy to back that up with any kind of argument...watch this space. No, not that one, this one.
No Manilow remasters either...
what are these lads on?
does anyone else find it weird...
...that Mastodon are this accepted by Pitchfork? I mean, this is the website which thought 'Relationship Of Command' was brainless thrashing.
that's cos it is
