Best mix of the year?
I shall do so. His mixes are generally good.
but he's good so I'll hunt it out.
really liked Total 7 as well this year.
Am I a heretic for prefering the skream LP to the Burial one?
is it mostly kompakt stuff?
i've kind of gone off kompakt this year, but i don't know why.
the stuff kompakt helps distribute is great though, the new AM/PM releases on Dreck Records are super.
in fact, there haven't really been any electronic albums that have grabbed me by the face this year, just things i've enjoyed a lot without falling in love with, like the James Holden record.
best thing i can think of is the new Ricardo Villalobos 2x12" on Perlon, because that DID gouge my brain out. why do i not take ket again?
MICHAEL MAYER (AND HIS DISTINCTIVE MUSIC-CHARISMA) WITH HIS SECOND MIX FOR KOMPAKT. INCL. SCSI-9, GEIGER, J. KOEHNCKE, LINDSTROEM, E.G. THE FIRST PRESSING COMES WITH "FREE DOWNLOAD-MP3-COMPILATION"-CODE!
additionall, the following K release (Pop Ambient 2006) is also hella tight.
That Villalobos set is fucking brilliant, but suits a good smoke more than ket if you ask me.
Holden took a headphone listen, then hearing it on a massive system to sink in - but now it has the same impact for me everywhere.
cause i heard that was ace, and it has AM/PM's thing from the start of the year that i adore on it.
that blurb just reminded me how great Lindstrom's stuff this year was.
I like his remixes though.
I also found it difficult to listen to a whole album of Lindstrom, even though he's great. It's just a bit much... I should probably give it more time.
His 'We Share Our Mother's Health' is sexy.
for ages now, but the quality is always good so no one complains really. Perfectly reasonable to go off it though. I didn't listen to Total 7 very much to be honest. This mix isn't all Kompakt but it's very Kompakt sounding. I liked it a lot on first listen though.
Are we turning this into a generic techno thread? Yay.
I think it's been mostly 12"s and EPs and things I've liked more than albums. Although the My My one was great.
Stuff I've liked:
The Luciano and Eat split 12"
Alex Under's Multiplicanciones EP
Isolee - Hermelin EP
Audion - Mouth to Mouth, which is actually completely amazing even though it's unbelievably simple and repetitive and it's got far too many breaks. But that synth is the most hypnotic thing ever.
Which is the new Villalobos? The What's Wrong With My Friends thing? I actually haven't listened to it yet, despite being on my computer for ages now. Dunno why... I've been waiting to be in the right mood for or it something.
Could get a hold on that Audion LP though. Technically, it sounds fucking brilliant, it just doesn't grab me enough.
'Your Place Or Mine' is the most brooding thing ever. It's got loads of subtleties but it's also ridiculously powerful. Kisses and The Pong are just completely off the hook though.
Mouth to Mouth didn't really sound like anything off the LP but I liked it a lot.
Though, I never did to Junior Boys. So who knows.
i haven't heard most of that stuff, because i don't have soulseek at my flat and i can't afford to be "dropping p's" on loads of 2 track 12"s.
I got most of this from Oinks, I have a 'buy' list for when I finally get a job, it's getting ridiculously long now.
Also, the Audion remix of Hot Chip is completely bizarre. I can't decide whether I like it or not.
In a different way, have you heard the relatively bizzare Digitalism re-cut of Klaxons' 'Atlantis to Interzone'?
It takes a few but is ace.
Actually, didn't you play it to me at your house? :D It's good.
My favourite Digitalism thing is his remix of Cut Copy's Going Nowhere. I loved that.
is too obviously a DJ tool to be truly brilliant, although in live sets it is mindblowing.
